Description:

JOB OVERVIEW

Maintains the Resort landscaping and surrounding areas. Plants and maintains new and existing vegetation.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Cutting lawns with push mowers and riding mowers.
  2. Maintaining trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls.
  3. Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs.
  4. Assist in annual flower plantings.
  5. Cleans grounds and assists in leaf removal.
  6. Shovels snow from walks and parking lots.
  7. Spreads salt/ sand on public passage ways to prevent ice buildup.
  8. Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
  9. Waters lawn and shrubs.
  10. Repair irrigation lines and helps identify problems.
  11. Mixes, applies appropriate pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or insecticides if certified.
  12. Under the direction of the Grounds Manager and Director of Facilities, plans and sets up holiday decorations.
  13. Assists with special projects.
  14. Assist in eradication of invasive species across the resort


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Workers work outdoors in the field approximately 90% of the time and indoors 10%. They are required to work independently and together as a team on grounds and special projects.


Requirements:

Essential

  1. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, to include holidays, weekends, and nights if needed.
  2. Must have ability to learn how to operate maintenance equipment.
  3. Must be able to follow instructions.
  4. Must be able to work independently and as a team.
  5. General understanding of landscape plants and their care.


Desirable

  1. Previous experience in grounds maintenance.
  2. Strong understanding of all plants including natives and care of.


PHYSICAL ABILITIES

  1. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds overhead.
  2. Must be able to perform repetitive tasks and work extended hours in varying weather conditions.
  3. Must be able to walk long distances, bend and shovel.
  4. Must be able to operate and drive a golf cart.
  5. Able to read and follow directions.


SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

All employees must learn and comply with all Resort safety rules; must use appropriate safety equipment at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features or equipment, machinery or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisor if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function.
