Job Summary

Regular, Part-Time (47.5% FTE), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience (CTAHR), located in Hilo, Hawai'i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $4,000 - $5,000/Mon. (@47.5% FTE)
DUTIES: Synthesizes state of knowledge for water resources and suspended sediment transport in tropical watersheds. Analyzes available data to identify mechanisms for sediment production and delivery and data and/or knowledge gaps. Determines best modeling approach to achieve sediment reduction and other watershed management goals. Conducts modeling analyses to identify sediment source areas, quantifies sediment budgets where possible, and explores the effect of geology/climate/land use/wildfire on sediment delivery and yield. Applies hydrological models to assess changes in recharge/streamflow due to changes in climate and/or Land Use/Land Cover. Develops and maintains relationships with partners and user groups including developing and delivering extension / knowledge products. Drives to project sites. Performs other duties as assigned.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: PhD from an accredited college or university in hydrology, geomorphology, hydrogeology, hydrological modeling, or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE: Three to five (3-5) years of experience with hydrological modeling including of tropical watersheds. Working knowledge of Hawai'i climate data resources.
KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of modeling hydrological and geomorphological phenomena in tropical watersheds.
ABILITIES & SKILLS: Demonstrated ability to author or co-author publications, factsheets, briefs, or action plans. Strong spatial analysis skills. Must possess a valid driver's license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver's insurance equivalent to Hawai'i's No-Fault Driver's Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Condition : Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.
PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS: Ability to travel to field sites including remote areas accessible only by foot.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with standard models such as SWAT, InVEST, NSPECT, MODFlow, DHSVM, WEPP. Proficiency with software needed to analyze large spatial data sets, including ArcGIS, R, Python. Familiarity with development of decision-support tools.
