About All In One Accounting
All In One Accounting is a 7-time winner of the 50 Fastest Growing Companies in the Twin Cities and one of the Best Places to Work in the Minneapolis area. Our purpose is simple: to make the lives of entrepreneurial and nonprofit leaders better. We do that by supporting profitable growth, protecting assets, and amplifying impact - bringing financial clarity and strategic leadership to the clients who need it most. We run on EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System), which means clear goals, strong accountability, and a team that executes with intention.
About the Role
We're seeking a Controller for our Construction practice who leads the quality of client work, develops the Accountants alongside them, and serves as a trusted financial advisor to GCs, subcontractors, and specialty trade businesses. You are client-facing and advisory - construction owners face constant financial risk and they need advisors who can give straight answers fast.
Now About You
We hire for hungry, humble, and smart - and Controllers at AIOA are the fullest expression of all three. Hungry means you own the quality of your team's work and the development of the Accountants alongside you. Humble means you invest in the people around you genuinely, take accountability when work falls short, and bring your best thinking to every client interaction and every team conversation. Smart means you translate complex financials into clear decisions, lead with calm confidence, and know how to guide a team to great work without a formal reporting line to lean on.
Responsibilities & Expectations
Client Responsibilities
• Lead month-end closing meetings and WIP review sessions with construction clients
• Oversee preparation and review of monthly financial statements including job cost reports and WIP schedules
• Lead the work quality and mentorship of Accountants on your delivery team
• Manage AIA billing, retainage tracking, and contract revenue recognition oversight
• Analyze job-level and company-level budget variances and deliver strategic recommendations to clients and the CFO
• Prepare cash flow forecasting and backlog analysis in support of CFO client leadership
• Oversee subcontractor compliance programs and 1099 preparation
• Serve as proactive liaison with clients' CPAs, surety brokers, and banking partners
• Implement and maintain robust internal controls across client accounts
• Utilize current processes and tools, including code red alerts, to proactively identify and prevent fraud throughout all client accounting processes
• Meet or exceed billable hours goals while maintaining service excellence
Internal Responsibilities
• Complete all internal responsibilities including time tracking, capacity planning, and quarterly initiatives
• Actively participate in All In One Accounting's Brand Ambassador program, representing our mission and values
• Uphold security practices to protect client assets effectively
The Successful Candidate Will Have
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration
• Experience in a multi-client or Client Accounting Services (CAS) environment strongly preferred
• 7+ years of progressive construction accounting experience including team leadership
• Deep expertise in job cost accounting, WIP analysis, and construction contract management
• Proven success in client-facing advisory roles in a multi-client construction environment
• Strong ability to develop and guide Accountants without a formal reporting relationship
• Excellence in financial analysis and communication with construction business owners
• Advanced technical skills with construction accounting platforms
