As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Construction Controller to bring financial rigor, real-time job cost visibility, and strategic insight to our operations.
Sleeping Dog Properties is seeking to build an experienced accounting group to help manage our. The ideal candidate will manage financial records using QuickBooks and Procore, ensuring accurate and up-to-date bookkeeping for our construction projects. This role is critical in supporting the financial health and operational efficiency of our company.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Oversight
  • Lead all accounting operations including GL, AP/AR, payroll, and financial reporting
  • Produce accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Maintain and improve internal controls and financial processes
Job Costing & Project Financial Management
  • Oversee real-time job cost tracking across all active projects
  • Ensure alignment between budgets, commitments, and actual costs
  • Monitor and report on project-level profitability and margin fade/gain
  • Partner with PMs and Project Executives to identify financial risks early
WIP & Revenue Recognition
  • Manage Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and revenue recognition
  • Ensure proper cost-plus and percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Identify and flag under/over-billings and cash exposure
Cash Flow & Forecasting
  • Develop and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts
  • Manage company liquidity, banking relationships, and draw schedules
  • Forecast financial performance based on backlog and pipeline
Strategic & Operational Support
  • Support pricing strategy, fee structures, and contract review
  • Work closely with estimating and operations to improve margin performance
Team & Process Development
  • Oversee and mentor accounting staff
  • Improve systems integration (e.g., Procore + accounting software)
  • Drive process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy

Requirements
  • Required
    • 8-15+ years of accounting/finance experience, with construction industry experience required
    • Strong expertise in job costing and WIP reporting
    • Experience with cost-plus and high-end residential or commercial construction
    • Proficiency with construction software (e.g., Procore, Sage, QuickBooks, or similar)
    • Strong Excel and financial modeling skills
  • Preferred
    • CPA or equivalent certification
    • Experience in a design/build or integrated construction environment
    • Experience in a $15M-$50M revenue company
    • Familiarity with complex, multi-phase or high-end projects
