Evaluation Period: Annual performance evaluations if the student works the entire academic year. If the student works one semester, the performance evaluation will be completed after that semester
Purpose/Objective: To hire a current MSJ student who is eager to develop relevant and interesting stories to attract and engage our outside audiences, and to assist with website updates as needed. Written content will be shared on web and social channels. This role is responsible for providing interesting content to grow the Mount's reach, enhance its reputation, and gain a competitive edge in the marketplace. Led by a former Brand President from Procter & Gamble, the award-winning Marketing team is constantly learning, growing, and innovating, and wants to hire someone looking to do the same. This co-op can expect to receive mentorship and coaching from the Director as well as the Vice President of Marketing & Communications. Our team is committed to growing each individual's capabilities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • News story writing with headlines, interesting leads to hook readers, followed by most important information to supporting details.
  • Feature article understanding to present some stories in a narrative storytelling fashion.
  • Writing news posts as assigned about various happenings around campus
  • An eye for finding story leads on campus
  • Will submit stories in the back-end of the website to be published on the homepage and news section.
  • Maintain a professional and positive demeanor when communicating across campus.
  • Assist with proofreading print materials
  • Execute webpage edits to www.msj.edu
  • Responsible for adding/removing bio pages for staff members in the directory

  • Currently enrolled student at Mount St. Joseph University.
  • Must have completed prerequisites for co-op eligibility
  • Ability to work on own initiative, independently, and to deadlines.
  • Well organized, punctual, and reliable.
  • The ability to communicate sensitively and tactfully, both orally and in writing, with individuals at all levels within the University.
  • Eagerness to develop their writing skills to gain experience in a professional atmosphere.

  • Familiarity with AP StyleGuide is a plus, but not required
  • Has experience using a content management system (CMS) is a plus but not required, for example, Wordpress, Squarespace, etc.
