Job description

Consumers Energy is Michigan's largest energy provider, providing natural gas and/or electricity to 6.8 million of the state's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties. Consumers Energy knows job number one is to keep the lights on for customers. We are committed to delivering reliable, clean, and affordable energy to our customers 24/7.

Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to the One Energy Plaza Headquarters located in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary of Job Responsibilities
The Senior Platform Engineer provides design, implementation, management and 3rd Level technical support services to staff and customers on hardware and software platforms. Troubleshoots highly complex infrastructure and application platform problems which can involve other groups such as server, network, and information security. The Senior Platform Engineer is considered the technical subject matter expert for their platform. Responsibilities include developing the strategies for security, compliance and cost optimization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to best practices.
  • Develop security and compliance strategies for infrastructure and/or application platforms.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues and drive root cause analysis
  • Lead automation and/or infrastructure-as-code (IaC) initiatives.
  • Design and implement infrastructure and platform solutions for high availability.
  • Considered a subject matter expert with regards to the current platform.
  • Optimize cloud and on-premises environments for performance and cost efficiency.
  • Other duties as assigned.
