Demopolis, AL | Highway / Heavy Civil Project


Brasfield & Gorrie is hiring an experienced Construction Surveyor to support a highway project in Demopolis, Alabama. This role is responsible for construction layout, field surveying, line and grade, elevations, and daily field verification to help keep highway and heavy civil work accurate and moving. Candidates with experience as a Robotic Field Engineer, Construction Surveyor, Survey Party Chief, Survey Crew Chief, or similar role are encouraged to apply.


Responsibilities

  • Perform field layout and construction surveying activities for highway and heavy civil work
  • Establish control points, line and grade, elevations, offsets, and working lines for crews and subcontractors
  • Assist with field verification, dimension checks, grade checks, and layout-related problem solving
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and survey data
  • Operate data collectors, electronic or robotic total stations, digital levels, tripods, prisms, and Carlson Explorer/software
  • Maintain accurate field notes, layout data, and surveying documentation
  • Coordinate with project leadership, field supervision, and craft teams to support daily production
  • May supervise a rodman and/or survey crew
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervision

  • 3+ years of experience as a Construction Surveyor, Field Engineer, Survey Party Chief, Survey Crew Chief, or related role preferred
  • Experience on highway, roadway, bridge, or other heavy civil construction projects preferred
  • Strong understanding of construction layout, line and grade, elevations, and field verification
  • Experience with data collectors, electronic or robotic total stations, digital levels, tripod, prism, Carlson Explorer, Carlson software, and computers
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, procedure manuals, and specifications
  • Strong math skills, including algebra and trigonometry
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work well with field teams
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, work at elevated heights, frequently lift materials up to 70 pounds, and stand or walk for extended periods
