Job description

Custom Concrete is looking for hardworking, detail‑driven individuals to join our team as Layout Technicians. If you take pride in precision, enjoy working outdoors, and want to contribute to the success of large‑scale commercial construction projects, as well as residential, multifamily, and industrial foundations. This is an excellent opportunity to grow your career with an industry leader.

About the Role

As a Layout Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring foundations are built accurately and efficiently. Using advanced surveying equipment—including Trimble robotic total stations—you’ll establish key layout points, perform stakeouts, complete as‑builts, and support crews throughout all phases of construction. This position is hands‑on, fast‑paced, and vital to delivering the high‑quality work Custom Concrete is known for.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Operate Trimble robotic total stations and other field equipment to accurately layout foundation points for commercial, residential, multifamily, and industrial structures.
  • Use computers, tablets, smartphones, and Custom Tracker, our proprietary project management system.
  • Perform geometric and mathematical calculations, such as angles, area, volume, and unit conversions.
  • Read and interpret detailed building plans and specifications.
  • Provide precise layout before and during the production phase, perform as‑built measurements, and produce layout reports.
  • Ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and security of all company equipment.
  • Work independently, conduct site inspections, and identify potential hazards—including soft soil, low overhead lines, missed digs, and access issues.
  • Communicate clearly with field crews, operations managers, builders, and homeowners regarding progress and revisions.
  • Verify crew work, including measurement accuracy, squareness, plumb, elevation, and grade.
  • Work safely in all weather conditions, from extreme heat to rain, snow, and freezing temperatures.
  • Follow all safety protocols and incident reporting requirements and use appropriate PPE.
What We’re Looking For

Successful Layout Technicians are patient, detail‑oriented, and technically skilled. You’ll excel in this role if you bring:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good time‑management and organizational skills
  • Integrity and excellent communication abilities
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
  • A willingness to learn, grow, and adapt to changing conditions

Preferred:
5 years of layout experience in commercial, residential, multifamily, or industrial construction.

Work Environment

You’ll work primarily outdoors and on active construction sites. Conditions often include:

  • Extreme temperatures, wet or humid environments, and exposure to noise
  • Working near moving mechanical equipment
  • Occasional exposure to heights, fumes, airborne particles, and electrical hazards
Physical Requirements

This role requires strong manual dexterity, hand‑eye coordination, and full range of vision including depth perception, color vision, and focus adjustment.

Schedule & Hours

This is a full‑time role. Typical workdays range from 10–14 hours, averaging 50+ hours per week, with opportunities for additional hours based on workload.

Additional Requirements
  • Valid Indiana Driver’s License with a clean driving record
  • Proof of authorization to work in the United States
Equal Opportunity Employer

Custom Concrete Co., Inc. is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome all qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, marital or veteran status, or disability. Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed.
