Job description

GFT is seeking Construction Engineering Inspectors (Levels I - IV) to join our Construction Services team in Laredo

What you'll be challenged to do:

The CEI Inspector I - IV serves as a senior-level field inspector for TxDOT construction projects. This role provides advanced inspection, documentation, and compliance oversight on complex roadway and bridge projects. The Inspector IV communicates effectively with the CEI Project Manager and TxDOT Project Manager, leads and manages inspection staff, and supports project execution through proactive coordination and meeting management.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: 

  • Perform inspection of roadway, bridge, drainage, earthwork, concrete, asphalt, retaining walls, and traffic control operations.
  • Ensure all work complies with TxDOT Standard Specifications, contract plans, and special provisions.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with the CEI Project Manager and TxDOT Project Manager regarding progress, risks, and required decisions.
  • (If an Inspector IV) - Lead, direct, and manage Inspector I-III staff, including daily assignments, field coordination, and mentoring.
  • Run and facilitate project meetings, including pre-activity, coordination, and construction meetings as assigned.
  • Review contractor operations and verify materials placement, testing, and quality control activities.
  • Prepare and audits accurate Daily Work Reports (DWRs), pay quantities, diaries, and photo documentation using SiteManager.
  • Monitor and document work zone traffic control and TMUTCD compliance.
  • Support with RFI, Submittals reviews, estimates, change orders, audits, and project . . . closeout.
  • Other duties as assigned.  
What you will bring to our firm: 
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2 - 10+ years of TxDOT or TxDOT-equivalent construction inspection experience, including complex roadway and/or bridge projects.
  • Extensive experience on TxDOT contracts.
  • Proven ability to lead inspection teams, manage inspectors, and represent the CEI firm in meetings with TxDOT.
  • Strong working knowledge of TxDOT specifications, TMUTCD, and documentation standards.
  • Proficiency with SiteManager,  Proficiency in Microsoft 365, including core Office applications and cloud-based collaboration tools.

TxDOT Materials Certifications:

  • Level 1B Asphalt Field
  • ACI Concrete Field
  • SB 102
  • SW3P

Other Required Certifications:

  • OSHA Safety Certification
  • Work Zone Traffic Control
What we prefer you bring: 
  • Additional TxDOT materials or structures certifications.
  • Experience on IH-35 corridor projects, international bridge approaches, and phased urban construction.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills to support TxDOT audits, claims, and dispute resolution.
 Compensation:The salary range for this role is $60,000 - $100,000.
