Assistant Project Manager - Mechanical Construction

Assistant Project Manager
Position Overview
We are seeking an organized and proactive Assistant Project Manager to support the delivery of mechanical and construction projects with emphasis on piping and HVAC systems. The role will assist Project Managers in planning, coordinating, and monitoring field and office activities, maintaining project documentation, and ensuring quality, schedule and budget targets are met. Familiarity with Revit for model coordination and Procore for construction management is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers in project planning, schedule development, and coordination of mechanical, piping, and HVAC work.
  • Coordinate model and drawing reviews using Revit; facilitate clash detection and multidisciplinary coordination between MEP and structural teams.
  • Manage project documentation through Procore: maintain submittals, RFIs, transmittals, daily reports, and change logs.
  • Assist in procurement and material tracking for mechanical and piping equipment; verify deliveries and subcontracts against project requirements.
  • Monitor field progress, conduct site walks, report on installation quality, and conformance to drawings and specifications.
  • Assist with cost tracking and reporting: update budgets, track change orders, and support invoice reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, project procedures, and applicable codes; participate in safety meetings and site inspections.
  • Support commissioning and handover activities for HVAC and mechanical systems, including punch lists and system turnover documentation.
  • Prepare regular status reports, meeting agendas, and minutes; communicate schedule or scope impacts to stakeholders.
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to resolve technical and coordination issues promptly.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred - 2+ years of experience on mechanical/construction projects with direct exposure to piping and HVAC systems (industrial or commercial).
  • Proven experience using Revit for MEP coordination and model review.
  • Experience with Procore or similar construction management platforms for document control and project communication.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of construction means/methods, materials, and applicable mechanical codes and standards.
  • Demonstrated skills in schedule tracking, basic cost control, and preparing project reports.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage subcontractor relationships.
  • Proactive problem-solver with attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to work in both office and field environments.
  • OSHA safety training or equivalent preferred; PMP, CCM, or other project management certification is a plus.
