Job Description Summary
The Adjunct Faculty - General Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Instructor is responsible for delivering industry-aligned construction training to individuals preparing for entry into registered apprenticeship programs and construction careers. This role provides foundational instruction across multiple construction trades, emphasizing jobsite safety, hands-on skill development, employability skills, and workforce readiness. The instructor ensures compliance with institutional policies, applicable industry standards, and workforce funding requirements while supporting student retention, credential attainment, and apprenticeship readiness.
Responsibilities
• Deliver general construction and NCCER-aligned curriculum in compliance with program standards and guidelines.
• Instruct students in construction safety, hand and power tools, construction math, blueprint reading, layout, and introductory trade skills.
• Introduce learners to carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general construction systems.
• Utilize lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on lab activities to support diverse learning styles.
• Prepare students for industry-recognized credentials and pre-apprenticeship outcomes.
• Prepare thoroughly for each class session, including lesson planning, classroom and lab setup, and safety preparation.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and supportive classroom and lab environment.
• Enforce safety protocols, jobsite expectations, and proper tool usage.
• Accurately track student attendance, grades, skills checklists, and assessment documentation.
• Assess student knowledge and skills using written exams, practical evaluations, and performance-based assessments.
• Provide timely, constructive feedback and counsel students on academic progress and career pathways.
• Communicate regularly with program leadership and support staff regarding student progress and instructional needs.
• Collaborate with workforce staff and industry partners to support student success and placement.
• Utilize instructional technology platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, and learning management systems as required.
• Participate in required meetings, professional development, and compliance training.
Minimum Qualifications
• Minimum of five (5) years of professional, hands-on experience in the construction trades.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of construction tools, materials, jobsite practices, and safety requirements.
• Ability to deliver hands-on instruction in a workforce or pre-apprenticeship training environment.
• Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, email, and basic instructional technology.
Preferred Qualifications
Ten (10) or more years of professional experience in the construction trades.
• Associate's degree or higher in Construction Management, Construction Technology, Building Trades, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Prior teaching, training, or instructional experience in workforce development, technical education, or apprenticeship programs.
• OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 certification.
• Experience mentoring apprentices or entry-level workers.
Essential Duties
