The Conflicts Analyst - Lateral has responsibility for the entire conflict research and identification process as it relates to the onboarding of new and lateral attorneys.  With guidance from the firm's Deputy General Counsel, the Conflicts Analyst - Lateral will ensure that all ethical conflicts have been resolved prior to a hiring decision, if necessary, and that candidates are aware of any potential conflicts related to portable or prospective clients. The Analyst also contributes to the intake of portable clients of lateral attorneys upon joining the firm.  The Analyst may also contribute to conflicts research and identification as to the day-to-day new business of the firm, as needed.  This person will also have the ability to independently execute and manage the entire lateral conflict check process at a very high level and is a mentor and go to resource to the Conflicts Analyst-Lateral position.  Also, may be responsible for training new and junior level employees and involved in the development and implementation of department process improvements.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares initial conflicts summaries and identification of potential conflicts of interest for lateral attorneys and non-lawyers (paralegals, assistants, etc) who are not bringing portable clients to the firm. Provides support to sponsoring attorneys in resolution and clearing of conflicts and drafting of waiver letters. This includes performing corporate and conflicts database research on client and matter information provided by candidates, sponsoring attorneys and recruiting staff. This includes checking former and current work for potential conflicts.
  • Prepares initial conflicts summaries and identification for lateral partners bringing portable clients to the firm, providing support to sponsoring attorneys in resolution and clearing of conflicts and drafting of waiver letters. This includes checking former clients and non-portable target clients for potential conflicts.
  • Ability to maintain and keep several lateral candidate files organized; be prepared to give updates or provide knowledge about status of any given candidate on very short notice.
  • Once a lateral partner joins the firm, the conflicts analyst - lateral may work with the new lateral partner and his/her assistant directly to assist in expediting the opening of priority portable clients.
  • Works with the Deputy General Counsel to ensure conflicts are properly identified and communicated to the candidate prior to start date.
  • Works with the Supervisor, Lateral Conflicts and the CNB Senior Manager to ensure any needed ethics screens are erected as soon as candidate joins the firm.
  • Works with sponsoring attorneys, recruiting staff and the candidate directly as needed.
  • Ensures that that communication occurs between CNB and Information Governance/transfer teams regarding the onboarding of lateral files and the opening of transfer clients and matters.
  • As needed, may assist with other duties related to the resolution and clearance of conflicts of interest issues, including regular new business of the firm.
  • Assists the CNB Senior Manager in a wide range of research requests and other projects.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in dynamic environment.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of conflicts analysis experience required.
  • Experience with lateral conflicts analysis required.  Equivalent/relevant work experience may be substituted for lateral experience.

In support of transparency and equity in the workplace, Foley provides salary ranges for all positions. The figures below represent the full compensation range of this position. The actual offered amount will be between the range minimum and midpoint based on the following factors: education, experience, geographic market, and internal pay equity at Foley.  We are accepting ongoing applications. Milwaukee, Madison -$63,900 to $108,500

Los Angeles - $73,500 to $124,800
