What is concierge pediatrics?

Concierge pediatrics is a healthcare model where pediatricians offer personalized care to families, typically in exchange for a membership or annual fee. This model provides enhanced access to the doctor, longer appointment times, and more direct communication, such as same-day or next-day visits and after-hours availability. Parents often appreciate the dedicated attention and convenience, which can lead to more proactive and comprehensive care for their children. Concierge pediatrics is designed to provide a higher level of service than traditional pediatric practices.

How does working as a concierge pediatrician differ from traditional pediatric practices in terms of patient relationships and daily responsibilities?

As a concierge pediatrician, you typically manage a smaller patient panel, which allows for more personalized care and longer appointment times. This model emphasizes building strong, ongoing relationships with families and often includes 24/7 accessibility via phone, text, or email. Your daily responsibilities may involve proactive wellness outreach and individualized care planning, as well as coordinating with specialists as needed. While the work environment is generally more flexible, it requires a high level of dedication to patient availability and satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a concierge pediatrician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Concierge Pediatrician, you need board certification in pediatrics, strong clinical skills, and a background in personalized, family-centered care. Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and telemedicine platforms is important, along with maintaining relevant state medical licensure. Exceptional interpersonal skills, discretion, and the ability to build long-term relationships with families set outstanding concierge pediatricians apart. These competencies ensure high-quality, responsive care tailored to each patient, which is central to the concierge medicine model.

What is the difference between Concierge Pediatrics vs Pediatric Nurse?

AspectConcierge PediatricsPediatric Nurse
CredentialsMedical degree, pediatric specialization, possibly board certificationRegistered Nurse (RN) license, pediatric nursing certification often preferred
Work EnvironmentPrivate practice, patient homes, or exclusive clinicsHospitals, clinics, pediatric wards, outpatient settings
Employer & IndustryPrivate healthcare practices, concierge servicesHospitals, healthcare facilities, clinics
Work FocusProviding personalized, preventive, and urgent care directly to familiesProviding nursing care, administering treatments, patient monitoring

Concierge Pediatrics and Pediatric Nurses both work in pediatric healthcare, but Concierge Pediatrics focuses on personalized, direct-to-family services often in private settings, requiring a medical degree and specialization. Pediatric Nurses provide clinical nursing care in hospitals or clinics, with a focus on treatment and patient monitoring. The roles differ mainly in work environment and scope of practice, though both aim to improve children's health outcomes.

How to become a concierge pediatrics?

To become a concierge pediatrician, one must complete a bachelor's degree, attend medical school, and complete a pediatric residency. Additional certifications in pediatrics and strong communication skills are important, and experience in primary care can be beneficial. Licensing requirements vary by location and must be fulfilled to practice legally.

Job Description

Mount Sinai Solutions seeks a Concierge Primary Care Physician to provide care to children and adults!

Mount Sinai is one of the largest non-profit health systems in the U.S., with a strong reputation for research/education (18th ranked U.S. medical school) and quality of care (Top ranked hospital in N.Y. State). Traditions are important, but at Mount Sinai, we are looking for people to join our team who want to innovate and make healthcare better.

To help achieve these goals, our group focuses on improving value and service in health care by working with employers and providing excellent patient-centered care through next generation health centers and concierge programs.

A flagship of this line of business is the 9,000 square foot state-of-the-art Health Center at Hudson Yards. In addition to an employer-sponsored high-touch membership practice, The Health Center houses a white-glove practice that provides outstanding concierge-level service and amenities to individuals who purchase memberships. We will soon be expanding our concierge practice to a second site on the Upper East Side, where we will see both adults and children, and are currently recruiting a primary care physician to help grow this membership-based next-generation practice. https://www.healthcenterhudsonyards.com/about/

Mount Sinai seeks a Primary Care Physician to provide concierge-level primary and preventive care to adults and children at a next-generation health center on the East side of Manhattan and in patients’ homes. The focus will be on providing the best white-glove patient care and experience possible to a dedicated panel of member/patients, including families. We expect to provide much of this care, particularly to children, in the home. Clinical performance will be evaluated based on patient satisfaction - think longer appointments and coordinated follow-up care, NOT RVUs and productivity.

We are looking for an outstanding primary care clinician, board-certified either in Internal medicine and Pediatrics or in Family medicine, with experience treating adults and children in an outpatient setting who has or can obtain a New York State License. Candidates with experience working in innovative clinical models and with success in meeting elevated patient expectations are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience managing a continuity panel of primary care patients that has included both adults and children

  • Medical Degree from an Accredited University

  • New York Medical License or eligibility for license

  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics

Compensation ranges from 275K to 400K (not including bonuses / incentive compensation or benefits)
