Position Title: Retail Pharmacist
Location: Wailea People & Paws Pharmacy – Wailea, Maui, Hawaii
Employment Type: Full-Time (Part-Time Considered)
Primary Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Verify and accurately dispense prescription medications.
- Provide comprehensive medication counseling and clinical recommendations.
- Review prescriptions for appropriateness, drug interactions, allergies, contraindications, and therapeutic duplications.
- Recommend customized medication solutions in collaboration with prescribers.
- Deliver an exceptional concierge patient experience.
Pharmacy Operations
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and interns.
- Ensure compliance with all Hawaii Board of Pharmacy, DEA, HIPAA, and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Maintain accurate documentation and pharmacy records.
- Assist with inventory management and medication procurement.
- Resolve insurance and prescription-related issues.
Compounding & Clinical Services
- Verify compounded prescriptions for accuracy and clinical appropriateness.
- Collaborate with compounding staff on formulations for:
- Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
- Dermatology
- Weight Management
- Pediatric medications
- Veterinary compounds
- Wellness therapies
- Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain familiarity with USP standards applicable to the pharmacy's operations.
Provider Collaboration
- Build relationships with physicians, nurse practitioners, veterinarians, and other healthcare providers.
- Answer clinical questions and provide medication recommendations.
- Assist providers with customized medication options and dosing strategies.
- Support educational outreach when appropriate.
Team Leadership
- Foster a positive, patient-first culture.
- Mentor pharmacy technicians and interns.
- Assist with workflow optimization.
- Promote continuous professional development.
Qualifications Required
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.
- Active Hawaii Pharmacist License (or ability to obtain prior to employment).
- Strong clinical judgment and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Preferred
- Community pharmacy experience.
- Compounding experience (sterile and/or non-sterile).
- Experience with hormone therapy, dermatology, veterinary medicine, or wellness products.
- Familiarity with USP <795>, <797>, and <800> standards.
- Experience with PrimeRx or similar pharmacy management software.
- Immunization certification is a plus.
