Job description

Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Archives in UEIS is searching for a Gilman Archive Intern to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and engaging work environment.
In collaboration with the Collections Archivist, this position will survey, appraise, arrange, rehouse, and describe the papers of Fred Gilman, a physicist and emeritus professor at Carnegie Mellon University. The collection comprises administrative files, research files, and personal records.
Core responsibilities include:
  • Survey the Fred Gilman papers (50 linear feet) and develop a processing plan;
  • Appraise, arrange, and rehouse the collection;
  • Describe the collection using ArchivesSpace to compose and publish a finding aid.

  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

  • Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity. Carnegie Mellon is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.
  • Fixed Term: This is a fixed-term position with an estimated duration of 5 (five) months.
