Job description

Property Management Accountant Job Description
Division: RMI
Reports To: Controller
FLSA Status: Exempt
Summary of position:
The Accountant will leverage their experience in a well-established, fast-growing, and multi-faceted business. This position is responsible for financial reporting with emphasis on account analysis, budgets, account reconciliation and working as a team with property management and compliance departments. It is critical that this position have a good understanding of accounts payable process; including review of expense reports to assign payment to the proper cost centers, working with vendors and team members, and reconciling monthly statements.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Follow and demonstrate Roers' Core Values of Respect, Opportunity, Partnership, Experience, Expertise and Community when working with team members, customers and our external communities.
  • Prepare all aspects of the financial statement package, including journal entries, general ledger analysis & review of 30+ entities.
  • Interact with Directors, General Managers, Site Managers, Leasing Agents, Project Managers, and others in obtaining information needed to prepare accurate financial statements and analysis of actual/budget variances.
  • Process Rent Roll, Security Deposits, Late Fees, and weekly traffic reports.
  • Process payments to vendors, subcontractors, etc.
  • Preparation of annual budget and year-end audit work papers.
  • Monthly close, including accrual entries, and publication of financial reports including financial notes and a variance analysis versus budget.
  • Identifying billing, A/R and A/P issues and resolving with internal service groups
  • Monitor collections process.
  • Annual property budget preparation with recommendations to the general managers and director
  • Complete ad-hoc projects and analysis assignments as instructed by internal management.
  • Become an internal resource for software questions and reporting creation.
  • Train new employees in processes and procedures that affect data integrity.
  • Set up new properties and construction projects in software.
  • Assist the Controller during internal and external audits.

Other Requirements:
  • Ability to understand full financial accounting cycle in order to process multiple property financial statements on a monthly basis.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication on all levels.
  • Continual attention to detail.
  • Possess a "can-do" attitude and follow through to completion on all tasks.
  • Proficient in MS Word & MS Excel.

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred. Combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 2-3 years' experience as Staff Accountant in property management field.

Work Environment:
The job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets and other customary office equipment.
