Concept Manager information

What is a concept manager?

A Concept Manager is a professional responsible for developing, managing, and implementing new business or product ideas within an organization. They often coordinate between various departments—such as marketing, design, and production—to bring innovative concepts to life. Their key tasks include market research, strategy development, and overseeing projects from initial idea to launch. Concept Managers play a crucial role in ensuring that new concepts align with the company's goals and meet market demands.

How does a concept manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during the product development process?

As a Concept Manager, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between creative ideation and practical implementation. You’ll regularly collaborate with marketing, design, engineering, and sales teams to ensure that new concepts align with business goals and customer needs. This involves organizing brainstorming sessions, facilitating feedback loops, and aligning project milestones across departments. Effective communication and project management skills are crucial, as you’ll often act as the main point of contact to drive concepts from initial idea to actionable plans.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a concept manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Concept Manager, you need expertise in project management, creative strategy, and market analysis, often supported by a relevant degree in marketing, business, or design. Familiarity with design software (like Adobe Creative Suite), project management tools (such as Asana or Trello), and data analytics platforms is typically required. Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities help you inspire teams and drive innovative concepts to execution. These skills ensure the development of market-relevant concepts, effective cross-functional collaboration, and successful project delivery.

What is the difference between Concept Manager vs Product Manager?

$120000 - $150000 per year | Lenexa, KS | On-site | Permanent

Lead a team of PMs taking products from concept to volume manufacturing at a fast-paced contract engineering company that never stops innovating.

Manufacturing Project Manager

Lenexa, KS

$120,000 - $150,000

The Opportunity

Our client, a contract engineering and manufacturing company known for taking products from concept to volume production across a wide range of industries, is looking for a Manufacturing Project Manager. This is a critical hire as the current leader in this position prepares to retire at the end of the year. This is a hands-on, working manager role at a company that moves fast, embraces change, and puts out several different products a year. If you thrive in that kind of environment and want to lead both people and projects, this is your shot.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Manage a team of Project Managers, overseeing their day to day work and development
  • Own the who and the how: hire, coach, and mentor your team to build strong performers
  • Keep projects on track from concept through volume manufacturing
  • Work cross functionally with embedded systems and functional managers to drive execution
  • Stay hands on as a working manager, managing projects directly alongside your team, not just from a distance
  • Bring structure and process improvements to a company that moves fast and handles multiple product lines at once
What We’re Looking For
  • 5+ years of people management experience
  • 5+ years of project management experience
  • Background in embedded systems strongly preferred
  • Experience with a contract engineering and design company that develops and manufactures products for other companies (think Garmin or similar), ideally one that ships several distinct projects per year
  • Mid career professional, not someone with 20 years managing people or 20 years running projects. We want someone hungry, sharp, and ready to grow into more
  • Comfortable operating in a fast paced, constantly evolving environment
Why This Role

This company designs and builds a wide range of products across industries, giving you constant variety and the chance to make a real impact across multiple product lines rather than getting boxed into one. It's a great place to build a career if you like change and want ownership over both people and process.
