What is a Computer Science Intern job?

A Computer Science Intern is a temporary position where students or recent graduates gain hands-on experience in software development, data analysis, cybersecurity, or other computing fields. Interns typically assist with coding, debugging, research, and testing while working under the guidance of experienced professionals. This role helps build technical skills, industry knowledge, and networking opportunities, preparing interns for full-time positions in the tech industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Computer Science Intern position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Computer Science Intern, you need a solid understanding of programming languages (such as Python, Java, or C++), data structures, algorithms, and basic software development principles, typically backed by ongoing coursework in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, integrated development environments (IDEs), and sometimes exposure to cloud platforms or coding certifications can be advantageous. Strong analytical thinking, effective communication, initiative, and the ability to work well within a team are valuable soft skills in this role. These skills and qualities ensure that interns can quickly contribute to projects, adapt to new technologies, and collaborate effectively with experienced professionals.

What kind of projects and tasks can I expect as a Computer Science Intern?

As a Computer Science Intern, you can expect to work on a variety of tasks such as writing and testing code, debugging software, supporting ongoing development projects, and collaborating on team-based assignments. Interns often contribute to designing features, fixing bugs, conducting research, or assisting in quality assurance under the guidance of senior engineers or mentors. The exact nature of your projects may vary based on the company and team, but you will typically gain hands-on experience with real-world software development tools and workflows. This exposure not only builds your technical skills but also helps you understand agile work environments and best practices, making it a valuable step toward a full-time role in the field.

You will evaluate how work gets done today, identify where AI can reduce manual effort, and develop usable
prompts, templates, and lightweight workflow automations that can be adopted immediately by the business. This role is ideal for someone who is not only excited about AI, but already actively using tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and related technologies to solve real workflow problems.

This internship is not focused on theoretical AI research, it is focused on practical application, workflow improvement, and helping teams build confidence and fluency with AI in their day-to-day work.

Capstone Overview

During your 12-week capstone project, you will lead the development of an AI Productivity & Scale framework for Customer Experience and Customer Success. Your focus will be on identifying high-frequency, repeatable workflows where AI can improve efficiency, consistency, and quality without adding complexity or requiring major system changes.

You will partner with CX, CS, and Support stakeholders to evaluate workflows, prioritize opportunities, and prototype practical solutions such as prompts, templates, and lightweight workflow automations. At the conclusion of your internship, you will present your recommendations, reusable assets, and strategic findings during our Internship Showcase.
Responsibilities:
  • Partner with Customer Experience, Customer Success, and Support stakeholders to evaluate current workflows, identify friction points, and uncover high-value opportunities for AI enablement
  • Analyze repeatable, manual tasks and recommend ways to improve efficiency, consistency, and quality through AI-assisted workflows
  • Design, test, and refine prompts, templates, and lightweight automations that support common CS use cases such as customer summaries, follow-up communications, account prep, and internal handoffs
  • Help document and operationalize best practices for AI usage, including prompt structure, workflow guidance, and practical team enablement
  • Lead a capstone project focused on AI Productivity & Scale for CX/CS, culminating in a final set of recommendations, prototypes, prompts, and reusable assets that help the team adopt AI more effectively
Nice to haves:
  • Strong interest in AI productivity, workflow design, and applying technology to improve how teams operate
  • Ability to identify patterns, simplify complex workflows, and translate ideas into practical, easy-to-use solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to help others adopt new tools and ways of working
  • Pursuing a degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience using modern AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and/or Claude Code for writing, research, analysis, prototyping, or workflow improvement
  • Familiarity with prompt engineering concepts, including how to structure prompts for clarity, consistency, and high-quality outputs
Requirements:
  • Must be actively enrolled in a college degree program
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
$20 - $30 an hour
