This combination has provided world-leading positions in selected areas - tools for metal cutting, equipment and tools for the mining and construction industries, stainless materials, special alloys, metallic and ceramic resistance materials as well as process systems.

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Materials Science Intern / Co-op to support research and development efforts in advanced materials, with a focus on ceramics processing and characterization. This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with experienced scientists / engineers and contribute to real-world applications, including next-generation materials solutions.

Duration: Summer 2026 (with potential extension for co-op) this position is in Columbus, Ohio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct hands-on laboratory experiments involving powder processing, ceramics, super-hard and hard materials
  • Perform literature reviews to identify relevant research and emerging technologies
  • Design and execute experiments using Design of Experiments (DoE) methodologies
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data to identify trends and insights
  • Curate and synthesize data to uncover key relationships and performance drivers
  • Document findings and present results to the broader technical team
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams while maintaining the ability to work independently
Basic Qualifications
  • Pursuing a B.S., M.S in Materials Science & Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, or a related field
  • Background in ceramics, powder processing, or related materials systems
  • Strong interest in experimental work and laboratory research
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, organized, and detail-oriented
Preferred Qualifications
  • Understands Design of Experiments (DoE) and statistical data analysis
  • Familiarity with materials characterization techniques
  • Exposure to data analysis tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Excel, or similar)
  • Experience or coursework in theoretical modeling or simulations (a plus)
