Position Overview
Are you looking for a rewarding career with an organization that values their staff? The Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) is seeking to hire qualified candidates with the opportunity to work in a dynamic, creative thinking, problem solving environment. This position serves as a Computer Operations Technician supporting the Department of Employment Security (IDES) performing difficult production control procedures, preparing job streams and monitoring outputs. Performs complex technical functions related to the operations of data processing equipment ensuring that all computer application output id printed in a timely and accurate manner. Checks computer application output for acceptability and conformance to established standards. Regulates the production mainframe printers to ensure proper formatting is enabled. Performs necessary functions to load paper stock into production mainframe printers to ensure proper printing of documents. Essential Functions
- Under general supervision, serves a Computer Operations Technician for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT), supporting the Department of Employment Security (IDES), performing difficult production control procedures, preparing job streams and monitoring outputs on Night Shift-Team B.
- Monitors the Application Development Machine (4381) responding to any operator intervention request.
- Reviews and analyzes computer printouts and punchouts to assure conformance to set standards.
- Periodically cleans printers, card readers and tape drives to prevent buildup of paper, dust and foreign matter harmful to its operation.
- Assists supervisor by performing studies and making recommendations related to personnel, equipment and training needs.
- Assists with the ordering, delivery, placement and relocation of all computer related supplies.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
• Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
• Requires one year (1) of related data processing experience.
Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
Preferred Qualifications
• One (1) year of professional experience in console operations, peripheral equipment handling, and supporting staff in large scale computer system environments.
• One (1) year of professional experience performing mainframe monitoring, troubleshooting system interruptions, and carrying out corrective measures to sustain system uptime.
• One (1) year of professional experience validating system output, coordinating with users on standards, and managing job execution through Time Sharing Option / Interactive System Productivity Facility (TSO/ISPF) or equivalent tools.
• One (1) year of professional experience managing computer supply processes, from ordering and monitoring inventory to coordinating delivery and placement of equipment.
• Working knowledge of preventive maintenance practices for computer hardware, including cleaning and maintaining printers, card readers, tape drives, and related peripheral devices.
• Ability to analyze operations, recommend improvements, and create accurate shift reports and logs to support system management and staffing.
