Description:

Join the Atlas Team in our expanding Deerfield and Chicago, IL offices and become an integral part of our growing Transportation practice. Our Transportation team is seeking a CAD Manager to coordinate with our team of surveyors, engineers, technicians and designers who will be responsible for overseeing the CAD design team, ensuring the accuracy, quality, and integration of CAD drawings across projects, managing CAD software tools, and enforcing drafting standards on transportation infrastructure projects. The CAD Manager will partner with civil and structural project managers, project engineers, surveyors, and technicians to jointly lead the development of engineering and survey deliverables in accordance with industry best practices. The ideal candidate shall possess project management and leadership skills and have the ability to work independently or within a team environment.


Duties & Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the CAD design team, ensuring all deliverables and drawings are developed in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Coordinate with engineers, surveyors, and other team members to ensure seamless integration of CAD designs across various disciplines.
  • Ensure CAD drawings and deliverables are accurate, complete, and meet established quality standards and client requirements.
  • Implement, enforce, and maintain up-to-date CAD drafting standards, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistency and precision in all deliverables.
  • Manage, update and maintain CAD software tools (e.g., Bentley ProjectWise, Bentley OpenRoads, OpenBridge(preferred), AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, etc.) to support the team’s drafting and design needs.
  • Provide training, technical support, and troubleshooting assistance to CAD users within the team.
  • Provide CAD-related support throughout the project lifecycle, including design revisions, updates, and documentation.
  • Proactively coordinate with project teams, track and report on the status of CAD deliverables and ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing, efficient CAD team, reinforcing professional growth and technical skills.
  • Manage staffing levels and resources to ensure the team is appropriately resourced for ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Proactively stay updated on the latest advancements in CAD software, tools, and techniques, and implement best practices to enhance productivity and efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities to improve CAD workflows and reduce errors or delays in project delivery.
  • Advanced knowledge of design standards to ensure compliance with required design safety factors, tolerances, and specifications
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Preferred credentials: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or related field
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in CAD management, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Bentley ProjectWise, Bentley OpenRoads, OpenBridge(preferred), AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of CAD drafting standards and protocols for transportation projects with the following clients preferred: IDOT, Tollway, CDA, CTA, Counties and municipalities
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage simultaneous, multiple projects and deadlines effectively
  • Experience with infrastructure projects is highly preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to lead teams and mentor junior staff
  • Knowledge of BIM processes and integration with CAD systems is a plus

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency working in MicroStation, Bentley OpenRoads , ProjectWise, and AutoCAD / Civil3D establishing and maintaining CADD workspaces
  • Experience processing survey and LiDAR data to develop base maps and deliverables required
  • Experience in earthwork volumes assessments and calculations required
  • Experience with Open Road Designer (ORD) required
  • Experience administering ProjectWise a plus
  • Skills with AutoCAD, Civil 3D are a plus

Salary: $80,000 - $150,000. The salary will be determinate based on multiple factors, including the candidate's skills, experience, and certifications.
