Job Summary


Provides technical support to field staff in the use/application of computer technology for the daily functional activities of their respective departments; acquires and maintains complete and accurate knowledge of all computer hardware/software supported by Florida's Divisional Information Technology Department including Windows, networks, and Office 365; answers questions, resolves complaints, repairs equipment, changes software configurations, installs new hardware and peripherals and other duties to ensure that requests for service are addressed in an efficient, timely and courteous manner; may also design, code, and test computer programs to interface with specific products.


Essential Functions

Computer Technician Responsibilities:


Provides technical support and problem-solving assistance to all computer users at the command via telephone or on-site visits; diagnoses problems to determine if it is within the software program, client application, or hardware; resolves problems by checking type of computer, software, and client application.


Sets-up and installs personal computers and peripheral equipment; builds and installs cable, connects hardware, tests hardware for proper operation, and installs software to recognize and utilize hardware; troubleshoots problems associated with the Windows, Office applications, and Internet interface.


Installs optional hardware such as memory chips, modems, math co-processors, emulation boards, and font cartridges; modifies software programs accordingly.


Installs and sets-up various software applications and upgrades; tests installations to ensure proper functioning.


Prioritizes repair work in attempt to meet needs of users; informs users of progress or status of repairs; responds to users in a courteous and tactful manner.


Disables computer and peripheral equipment when necessary to relocate or change layout of equipment.


Performs necessary data back-ups before troubleshooting or repairing computers.


Contacts manufacturers via modem or telephone for updates on repair procedures, etc.


Maintains awareness of computer capabilities and technical advancements as upgrades become available.


Tests software, hardware, procedures, and documentation; provides recommendations regarding purchases of new software.

Develops custom software solutions which meet the functional and information requirements of the user and any department.


Maintains website and ensures the site is functioning properly and is available to users.


Maintains and support client and intern network by creating, disabling, and deleting network accounts when necessary.Updates and manages log on batch files.Provides printer support by ensuring clients and interns are mapped to correct printer and printer is fully functional.


Maintains and provides support for multi function network copiers by ensuring assets maintain network connectivity; troubleshoots, isolates, and repairs or replaces faulty component network components; coordinates vendor support when necessary.


Maintains UPS protection of IT assets by replacing batteries and/or UPS when necessary.


Re-images computer systems using disk imaging software; updates images on file using same.


Supports users in SharePoint and TEAMS for shared resources and collaboration.


Monitors, reports, and/or repairs wireless access points.


Maintains intercom system by troubleshooting, repairing, or replacing faulty speakers, amplifiers, handsets, and all cabling.


Documents all tasks performed using helpdesk software.


Maintains diagrams of network, Telecommunication, and surveillance infrastructure using appropriate software packages.


Coordinates with DHQ and/or vendors to have services performed that are not able to be completed by staff inside the department.


Researches and proposes technological solutions to exploit organizational opportunities.


Maintains IT and maintenance user portal by adding, removing, and creating content.


Supports fleet communications by maintaining cell phones and GPS tracking capabilities.


Maintains and supports installed time clocks by ensuring day light savings time updates are applied, ensuring communication with management software, and ensuring user interface is fully functional.


Ensures anti-virus software is installed and up to date on all workstations; removes viral, rogue, and spyware software as necessary.


Ensures organizations data backup procedures are carried out daily by checking backup status and taking corrective action when needed.


Trains users on software operation to include MS Office Suite and others as needed.


Labels network and phone ports throughout organization's facilities.


Maintains accurate inventory of all IT assets to include computers, monitors, printers, copiers, scanners, faxes, cell phones, land line phones, cameras, UPS, time clocks, projectors, tablets, switches, routers, access points, firewalls, servers, NAS devices, and other assets as directed.


Maintains access control list for copy, print, scan, and fax services on all organization multi-function copiers; ensures all copiers address books are up to date.


Troubleshoots and corrects network connectivity issues.


Coordinates the supply of toner for printers, copiers, and fax systems by monitoring machine levels; orders toner from appropriate vendors; delivers and installs toner proactively; maintains a store of all toner used.


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:


Visits user staff periodically to field questions regarding software, encourage the proper use of equipment, check on basic operation of equipment, provide continued awareness of client needs, and inform clients of future hardware and software trends.


Maintains and cleans computer equipment in accordance with established guidelines.


Maintains inventory of supplies, parts, and equipment to meet repair needs; prepares requisitions for equipment.


Maintains and upgrades professional knowledge, skills, and development by attending seminars and training programs and reading trade and professional journals and publications.


Performs other duties as assigned.

Operational and application knowledge of the databases available to end users as well as all versions of WINDOWS,Internet interface, DOS, and Apple operating systems.


Knowledge of the process employed to determine the applicability of a specific product to a given functional area.


Knowledge of the computer operating systems used by the Information Technology Department in depth sufficient to accurately and completely train users in the methods and procedures.


Proficient in HTML, ASP, .NET, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, XML, and other web technologies and standards.


Knowledge of effective presentation skills.


Ability to determine how a computer based product may best be used to address specific functional needs.


Ability to analyze and resolve problems with hardware and software.


Ability to identify and obtain resolutions to problems relating to a product and its application to a specific need.


Ability to determine compatibility between various software programs and hardware including networking software.


Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with Territorial Headquarter employees.


Ability to perform both one-on-one and classroom training of various software applications..
