Description

Johnson Health Tech North America is seeking a junior level industrial designer. We are a world leader in the fitness markets: within our development group we work on all aspects of products used in fitness: cardio, strength, and functional training. The work is engaging and offers many challenges.


Our offices are located in Cottage Grove, Wisconsin. Our facility is about 10 miles away from Madison, voted consistently as one of the best cities to live in within the US.

Position Overview:

Industrial Designers are formally trained and have a variety of skill sets; they would be expected to excel in the product development. Designers should be able to work from base technologies, market research or ethnographic study to develop product concepts. Once product concepts have been developed, they would be refined via several mediums. These would include but not be limited to the following: hand sketching, computer modeling, two dimensional layout, illustration, physical model building and computer rendering. Designers should be articulate, well-spoken and able to manage tasks efficiently. Additionally, they should be able to work with a wide variety of people such as marketers, salespeople, engineers and manufacturers within a time driven development cycle. In cases, the industrial designer may be called upon to engage field research and collate field results. Industrial designers work under the direction of the Director of Industrial Design. ID 1 is a non-supervisory, entry level position.


Responsibilities:


Personnel:

Establishes and maintains good working relationships

Involved with professional development, classes or associations

Constantly strives to improve skill sets: illustration, modeling, communication

Works well with others in a team structure

Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job


Research & Development:

Assists with research projects: conducts interview, distills data sets, and develops insights from data. Assists senior level designers with tasks relevant to research.

Develops concepts from research driven data and works as a go-between from research to other staff designers.

Supports brand efforts with industrial design, research and computer modeling.

Attends tradeshows regularly in and outside of the fitness industry


Product Development:

Sketching, computer modeling, concepts renders and graphics as needed.

Trending and aesthetic definition

Analysis of human factors and use data

Contributes ideas within the development cycle

Quality:

Maintains high quality work ethic: clear understandable sketches and illustrations.

Demonstrates commitment to management system by completion of KPI's on time or sooner

Requirements


Education:

Four year degree in industrial design


Experience:

Required: 0-3 years within an industrial design environment as a consultant, intern, or in-house designer

Portfolio to include school projects, internship projects or professional work.


Other Requirements:

Strong knowledge base in 3D modeling and surfacing techniques: Solid Works preferred

Strong knowledge in computer graphics: Adobe Suite

Knowledge of 3D Printing and common model-building tools

Domestic and international travel required

Ability to work closely with others and independently

Strong written and verbal communication skillsMS Project preferred.

Domestic, local, and international travel will be required.
