Job description

Job Description:

Experienced in electrical and control component selection of HVAC equipment. Create updated / new designs for released for production HVAC equipment features and determine the specifications for each component. Collaborates with sustaining designers and engineers to ensure that product designs integrate seamlessly with other systems. Provides design guidance and oversight to mechanical designers, enabling them to complete optimized designs.

Essential Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Develops modifications of current electrical diagrams and creates new electrical / controls system designs for production units and determines the specifications for each component
  • Reads schematics for designs and makes change recommendations
  • Collaborates with electrical and mechanical designers and engineers to ensure that the electrical system designs integrate seamlessly with other systems
  • Provides design guidance and oversight to assigned electrical designers for specific projects enabling them to release optimized designs
  • Establishes procedures for testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment
  • Tests and troubleshoots electrical/controls products to ensure they are functioning properly and are safe for use
  • Works with engineering and operations to implement engineering change notices (ECN)
  • Provides support to production team during prototypes and initial production to facilitate seamless product and feature releases
  • Coordinates with engineering and others to deviate/approve part shortages and to build test fixtures and prototypes
  • Creates cost estimates for the electrical/controls products including cost of material, labor, and equipment
  • Develop bill of materials and translation documents related to new or changed designs
  • Electrical CAD Modelling and simulations
  • Prepares product documentation, operating instructions, and reviews related technical literature
  • Supports DFMEAs and PFMEAs, FEA, and Seismic evaluations / testing
  • Stays up to date with local and national electrical codes and regulations to ensure that designs meet safety standards including but not limited to UL, CE, NEC, IBC, and NFPA
  • Maintains and builds professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, or participating in professional societies
  • Travels when necessary

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology
  • 1 to 3 years of industry experience

Essential Physical Functions:

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to sit or stand up to 95 percent of work shift hours
  • Ability to work in conditions below 32 degrees or above 90 degrees on occasion
  • Ability to travel to customer sites to resolve field problems
