What is a compliance product owner?

Compliance Product Owners are professionals responsible for ensuring that a company's products or services meet regulatory and legal requirements. They work closely with development, legal, and compliance teams to translate regulatory standards into actionable product features and processes. Their role involves managing compliance-related product backlogs, prioritizing tasks, and communicating with stakeholders to minimize risk. By staying updated on changing regulations, Compliance Product Owners help organizations avoid legal penalties and maintain customer trust.

How does a compliance product owner typically collaborate with legal, engineering, and business teams?

A Compliance Product Owner acts as a bridge between legal, engineering, and business units to ensure that product development aligns with regulatory requirements. They regularly work with legal teams to interpret laws and regulations, translate them into actionable product requirements, and communicate these to engineering teams for implementation. Additionally, they coordinate with business stakeholders to balance compliance needs with business goals, often facilitating meetings and documentation to keep all parties informed and aligned. Successful collaboration requires clear communication, strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize competing demands.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a compliance product owner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Compliance Product Owner, you need a deep understanding of regulatory requirements, product lifecycle management, and agile methodologies, typically supported by experience in compliance or risk management roles. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Confluence, and GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance) platforms, as well as relevant certifications such as Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), are highly beneficial. Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills set outstanding candidates apart. These skills ensure the delivery of compliant products that meet regulatory standards while aligning with business objectives.

Job description

Product Owner

Location: McLean, VA - On-site

The Opportunity

Weโ€™re looking for a Product Owner who thrives at the intersection of data, strategy, and execution; someone who doesnโ€™t just manage backlogs, but drives meaningful product outcomes.

In this role, youโ€™ll take ownership of data-driven product initiatives within a highly complex, regulated environment. Youโ€™ll partner closely with engineering, data, and business stakeholders to transform requirements into impactful solutions that improve processes, enhance decisionโ€‘making, and deliver measurable value. This is a space where strong product thinking meets deep domain expertise; especially within the mortgage ecosystem.

About You

Youโ€™re not just a Product Owner; youโ€™re a translator, a strategist, and a driver of momentum.

You understand data deeply; how it flows, how it transforms, and how it fuels business decisions. Youโ€™re comfortable navigating ambiguity, aligning stakeholders, and pushing initiatives forward without needing constant direction. Youโ€™ve likely worked in mortgage or financial services environments where precision, compliance, and data integrity matter.

Youโ€™re collaborative but decisive. You ask the right questions, challenge assumptions, and bring clarity where others see complexity. Most importantly, you care about building products that actually work; for users, for the business, and for the long term.

As a Strategio Product Owner you will:
  • Define, prioritize, and manage product backlogs aligned with business goals and dataโ€‘driven strategies
  • Translate complex stakeholder requirements into clear, actionable user stories
  • Partner with engineering and data teams to deliver highโ€‘quality products on time
  • Drive product delivery endโ€‘toโ€‘end, including roadmap ownership and squad leadership
  • Monitor product performance and iterate based on user feedback and insights
  • Facilitate agile ceremonies and champion continuous improvement across teams
  • Collaborate with QA teams to define test scenarios, support defect resolution, and ensure endโ€‘toโ€‘end product quality
Core Skills
  • 8+ years of experience as a Product Owner and/or Data Analyst
  • Strong expertise in the mortgage industry (processes, data, and regulatory context)
  • Deep knowledge of ETL processes, data analysis, and Informatica
  • Proven ability to independently drive product delivery (requirements, backlog, roadmap, leadership)
  • Experience leading crossโ€‘functional collaboration and business validation
  • Strong partnership with QA teams, including testing strategy and execution support
Niceโ€‘toโ€‘Haves
  • Familiarity with data platforms, analytics tools, or cloud technologies
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent certification
  • Experience working with distributed or global teams
  • Exposure to regulatory or riskโ€‘focused data initiatives
  • Background in business analysis or data strategy
