Job Description
Our client, a major healthcare network is seeking a Director of Benefits (contract) to provide senior-level leadership across its total rewards and benefits programs. This role will oversee the strategy, administration, and optimization of health, welfare, and financial benefit offerings—including medical, dental, vision, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives—within a large and complex organizational environment. The director will work closely with executive leadership to guide benefits strategy, vendor management, cost optimization, and program effectiveness, while also supporting operational activities such as annual enrollment, RFP processes, and post-enrollment auditing. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience managing benefits programs in large organizations—preferably within healthcare—and can quickly step in to assess the current benefits landscape, lead strategic discussions, and drive improvements across the organization’s benefits portfolio.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the strategy and oversight of the organization’s health, welfare, and financial benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives.
  • Provide director-level leadership and guidance to executive stakeholders on benefits structure, cost management, and program performance.
  • Manage and evaluate benefits vendors, including performance monitoring, contract oversight, and relationship management.
  • Lead and manage complex RFP processes for benefits vendors, including evaluation, selection, negotiation, and implementation.
  • Oversee the annual benefits enrollment process, including communications, employee engagement, system readiness, and execution.
  • Conduct post-enrollment auditing and reconciliation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to integrate benefits into the broader total rewards strategy.
  • Represent the benefits function in leadership meetings and cross-departmental initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and policies related to health and retirement benefits programs.
  • Assess the current benefits landscape and identify opportunities for program improvements and cost efficiencies.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience managing employee benefits programs, including health and welfare plans and retirement benefits, in a large or complex organization.
  • Strong expertise in benefits strategy, administration, and compliance, including medical, dental, vision, and retirement programs (e.g., 401(k), pension).
  • Demonstrated experience leading annual enrollment cycles, including communication strategy, enrollment administration, and post-enrollment auditing and reconciliation.
  • Proven ability to lead benefits RFP processes, including vendor evaluation, selection, negotiation, and implementation.
  • Experience managing benefits vendors and third-party administrators, including performance monitoring and contract oversight.
  • Ability to present to and advise senior leadership on benefits strategy, cost management, and program performance.
  • Strong knowledge of benefits technology platforms and systems used for enrollment, reporting, and administration.
  • Experience operating in large, complex organizations, preferably within healthcare or highly regulated environments.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) are preferred.
