Job description

About the EDGE Program:

Purpose: The EDGE Program is focused on skills development, job coaching, resource information and referrals. We offer a temporary work experience program as participants prepare to obtain competitive employment.

Participation:

Participants are referred through internal Goodwill programs, including Career Connections in an effort to support those who have barriers to employment and other disadvantaging conditions which limit employment options.

Duration:

Up to 6 months or 650 hours of paid work experience.

Paid Work Experience hour limitations:

No more than 25 hours per week to allow time to access other Edge resources.

Summary of EDGE Program Paid Work Experience Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities: Duties will vary based on placement – will be described at time of placement

Supervisor: Onsite Supervisor/ EDGE Coordinator/EDGE Specialist

Physical Demands: Work placement is generally in retail or warehouse areas. Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing (on concrete floors), recurring bending, crouching, reaching, stooping or similar activities. May also require frequent lifting of moderately heavy items up to 35 lbs and for certain positions, frequent climbing of stairs, ladders or step stools may be required. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. (with assistance if over 50 lbs.). If placement is in an office environment, physical demands would include primarily sedentary work. May require typing, walking, standing, bending, and light lifting of items such as paper/ books.

Work Environment: Work involves moderate risks or discomforts requiring special safety precautions (e.g. working outside in varied weather: working around moving machinery, carts or vehicles, or with irritating chemicals.) Participant may be required to use personal protective equipment such as masks, gloves, etc. If placed in an office environment, the work environment, the work involves risks associated with an office or commercial vehicle and requires observing basic safety/ fire regulations. Adequate lighting, heating and ventilation.

Duties:

Paid Work Experience placement may be in a variety of areas. These work duties will be described at the time you are assigned in more detail. When discussing the work duties at that time, please ensure that you notify your program contact and site supervisor if you are not able to do the tasks with or without reasonable accommodation. I will advise my program contact if I need reasonable accommodation to perform the essential duties of the work placement job.
