Job description

Aurora Mental Health & Recovery (AMHR) is seeking a dedicated Competency Restoration Education Specialist to assist individuals with mental illnesses in achieving competency for court proceedings through supportive education and intervention services. This role involves managing a caseload of clients court-ordered to complete Competency Restoration Services after being deemed Incompetent to Proceed (ITP). Responsibilities include facilitating Restoration Curriculum, collaborating with state and local stakeholders, and supporting clients in navigating the criminal justice system. Part of the multidisciplinary Outpatient Competency Restoration (OCR) Team, this position combines education with therapy, case management, and medication services to help clients succeed in the community. Ideal candidates will hold a bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or a related field, have 2+ years of mental health or human services experience, and possess strong communication and organizational skills. Bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates and those with experience in criminal justice referrals are encouraged to apply.
Schedule. This position will work Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, and is eligible for a hybrid model that allows for a mix of remote and in-office work, with an expectation of being in the office two days per week and working from home three days. This schedule may be adjusted based on training, client, or community needs.
Salary for this role. The starting wage is based on experience and company equity. Paid bi-weekly.
  • $21.03 - $31.56 per hour

Bilingual Language Differential Pay. Employees who successfully pass a language assessment are eligible to receive bilingual differential pay. This differential is provided as a fixed amount of $3,000 per calendar year, paid on a bi-weekly basis across 26 pay periods, and prorated based on hire date and full-time equivalency (FTE). Eligibility and payment are subject to the language requirements of the position and the employee's demonstrated proficiency in the language.
Essential Functions:
  • Working with teens, adults of all ages, providing Restoration Services in individual and group settings.
  • Training and teaching competency restoration curriculum to clients.
  • Provide instruction on basic legal knowledge and rational decision making with the goal of increasing both the clients factual knowledge and rational comprehension of the legal proceedings.
  • Restoration services include connecting a client to resource services that address their unique barriers to competency.
  • Complete monthly reporting forms that are filed with the court.
  • Effectively interacts with and communicates with other providers including external referral agencies.
  • Documents provision of services provided to clients in a timely manner
  • Complete outreach services to engage clients in competency restoration services.
  • When requested, provide court testimony related to restoration education services provided.
  • Staff member will monitor and coordinate care for assigned clients in partnership with the other members of the clients care team.

Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in psychology, social work, or other related human services.
  • Two years experience in mental health or human services.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Knowledge of behaviors in adults with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities.
  • Comprehension of client's right to privacy and confidentiality.

Required Vaccination and TB Test.
