JOB SUMMARY:
This position reports directly to the CHRO/Assistant VP - HR and is responsible for assisting with the development and maintenance of a market-based compensation system (CUPA) and administering the employee benefits plans. This role will play an integral role in the administration of university pay policies, performance management, and benefits plans. Primary job duties will include providing technical and analytical support in the area of classification and compensation, including analyzing and evaluating jobs to determine the market rate assignment, reviewing employee wage rates, and providing wage recommendations based on an established set of parameters. Other duties include submission of salary data for salary surveys, conducting compensation market analyses, routine reporting, and ensuring maintenance of compensation analysis systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Prepares and maintains job descriptions for each position at the University; ensure descriptions accurately reflect the work being performed by incumbents
  • Assess jobs and their respective duties to determine classification as exempt or non-exempt and appropriate salary range based on relative CUPA data
  • Benchmarks jobs against CUPA data and other market data to determine competitive ranges for each position
  • Assist in designing compensation programs (base salary programs, incentive compensation programs, performance management, job evaluations) that respond to legal requirements and University needs
  • Prepare and maintain job classifications and salary scales
  • Gather data from market-based compensation survey (CUPA); Help conduct market (CUPA) job & salary analyses; use spreadsheet and data analysis techniques to assess CUPA and market trends
  • Research compensation & benefits policies and plans
  • Update organizational charts
  • Collect information for and complete the Human Resources Annual Assessment Plan and Annual Assessment Report
  • Input appropriate data in Banner, E-Verify, and AL Dept. of Industrial Relations
  • Maintain historical records, develop regular and special reports, and monitor benefit-related expenditures. Oversee the administration and record keeping for benefit and compensation plans. Coordinate and prepare relevant documents and reports required by government agencies
  • Coordinate FMLA
  • Update and maintain the HR portal page
  • Gather and input HR data for Institutional Research
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing work scope and tasks based on need
  • Complete other related tasks as assigned

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of Human Resources experience required
  • College/university setting will be considered a plus
  • Currently certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) by the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) preferred
  • Strong math skills
  • Demonstrated competence with the Windows operating system and commonly used application software (Microsoft Office WORD, Excel, etc.) required
  • Confidentiality, flexibility, creativity, and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously is required

REQUIRED LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, OR SPECIAL CREDENTIALS:
  • An HR certification is a plus

Located in historic Athens, Alabama, Athens State University offers junior and senior-level coursework to community college graduates and transfer students holding sufficient credits from other institutions. Approximately 3,000 students each semester have selected Athens State because of its neighborly environment where over 50 majors and degree programs are offered, with courses taught by a supportive and exceptional faculty.
