is seeking a dynamic:
Volunteer Program Assistant
For more than 50 years, Senior Friendship Centers has been making a difference in the lives of seniors across Southwest Florida. We are looking for a passionate, people-focused, and highly organized Volunteer Program Assistant to help grow and support our volunteer program. The Volunteer Program Assistant plays a key role in recruiting, onboarding, coordinating, and supporting volunteers across multiple counties, helping to ensure our programs run smoothly and our mission continues to grow.
Senior Friendship Centers' Volunteer Program plays a vital and essential role in the success of Senior Friendship Centers. Senior Friendship Centers' volunteers utilize their time and skills as greeters, teachers, musicians, homebound friendly visitors, and much more.
We are looking to hire an organized individual with exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills. Applicant must be willing to work occasional evening and/or weekend events. This is a part-time position working between 20-30 hours a week. Benefits include generous PTO, paid holidays, and more! Essential Functions:
  • With Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator, implement a strategic volunteer program with a focus on recruiting, stewarding, and retaining volunteers.
  • Assist with the recruitment and interviewing process of volunteers to work in all program areas.
  • Help compose postings for volunteer opportunities for the website, social media, and other outlets.
  • Gather information about each volunteer's skills, availability, and goals to match volunteers with appropriate opportunities based on this data.
  • Assist with scheduling, coordinating, and assigning volunteers to appropriate departments, supervisors, and mentors.
  • Help coordinate with other departments to appropriately train and onboard volunteers.
  • Assist with the orientation of new volunteers.
  • Regularly communicate with volunteers to ensure the placement is a good fit for the volunteer's skills and goals.
  • Help maintain database, files, records, applications, and other data concerning the volunteer program.
  • Track volunteer time and attendance; prepare regular reports of same.
  • Help plan and arrange annual volunteer recognition events.
  • Attend community events and engage volunteers to present exhibit tables to share information about SFC and to recruit volunteers and clients.
  • Present in front of groups of diverse audiences, tailoring presentations to ensure content is appropriate for each group and setting.
  • Draft and/or edit correspondence, reports, stories, advertisements, social media posts, and other communications.
  • Assist with capturing volunteer photos and testimonials for use on social media.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Volunteers.

Organizational
  • Attend staff meetings, training, and seminars as required.
  • Must comply with all Senior Friendship Centers personnel policies.
  • Must protect the safety and health of staff, volunteers, participants, and others by observing and following the organization's safety and incident policies.

Competencies:
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Time management skills with a proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interact professionally with all staff, clients, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Must be friendly, flexible, able to handle challenges, and able to work with limited supervision.

Education, Experience, Licenses, and Certifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, ability, and skills to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Experience with volunteer coordination or human resources is highly preferred.
  • Experience in nonprofit or a related field is preferred.
  • Advanced computer skills; including proficiency with Volgistics (or ability to learn), Microsoft Office Suite, data applications, and a working knowledge of general office equipment.

Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer and standing.
  • Occasion periods of standing for up to 4 hours for events.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.

Travel:
  • Travel will be required as frequently as needed to support volunteer operations in Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee, and DeSoto counties.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • A valid driver's license and proof of insurance are required for all work-related travel.

Additional eligibility requirements:
  • Satisfactory clearance of a fingerprint-based, level II background screening and pre-employment substance abuse testing is required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
