General Function

The General Function of the Community Program Leader will be to spread awareness about the GOTR and STRIDE curriculum, build relations with your local community to promote site development, team/individual registration, and volunteer opportunities, and ensure that all children have access to the program regardless of financial barriers at home.

This position is located in the Macomb and Plymouth areas. 

Education/Experience/Training/Certifications

  • A high school degree or its equivalent is required.

  • A bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent or working towards a Bachelor’s Degree is strongly preferred.

  • Two years of experience working in a recreational setting is preferred.

  • Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with delivery of supplies to team sites as needed.

  • Attend GOTR/STRIDE program management team (PMT) meetings monthly.

  • Maintain excellent communication with site liaisons, volunteer coaches, and parents.

  • Recruit local volunteer coaches as needed in coordination with the GOTR Regional team.

  • Build relationships with local volunteers, participants, and families through engagement opportunities such as community events, expos, and other YMCA programs.

Abilities & Skills

  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal, written, and oral communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Establishes goals, clarifies tasks, plans work and actively participates in meetings. Follows budgeting policies and procedures, and reports all financial irregularities immediately. Strives to meet or exceed goals and deliver a high-value experience for members.

  • Must support the mission of the YMCA of Metro Detroit and promote family activities, and youth values, along with physical and mental Wellness.

  • Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
