Bolton & Menk has an exciting opportunity for a Community Outreach Leader to join our team in the Raleigh area. In this role, you will grow community outreach services in the Southeast by leading and delivering equitable, community‑centered public engagement efforts that connect people, partners, and clients to impactful transportation, planning, and urban design projects—helping foster our mission that All People Should Live in Safe, Sustainable and Beautiful Communities. This role combines leadership with hands‑on project management, overseeing multiple engagement initiatives, guiding community partnerships, managing budgets and contracts, and serving as a trusted liaison to clients and stakeholders in the area. You’ll also mentor and lead a team of engagement professionals while collaborating across internal service leaders, community organizations, and the public to build trust, advance meaningful outcomes, and secure future work.
What You Will Be Doing:
  • Grow community outreach services within the southeast region
  • Provide leadership and direction for equitable public engagement efforts across diverse communities
  • Manage and grow community partnerships with community‑based organizations, city agencies, stakeholders, and residents
  • Plan, schedule, and oversee the performance of multiple public engagement projects simultaneously
  • Serve as the primary client contact, resolving project issues and ensuring client satisfaction
  • Define project scope and participate in contract negotiations
  • Develop, manage, and monitor project budgets, implementing corrective actions as needed
  • Lead partnership development activities including meetings, presentations, and proposal preparation
  • Develop and implement strategic partnership plans for prospective and existing business partners
  • Lead stakeholder and client strategic planning efforts
  • Act as a liaison between Bolton & Menk, community organizations, and the public—responding to inquiries and coordinating spokespersons as needed
  • Plan, assign, and oversee work for community engagement staff, ensuring high‑quality deliverables
  • Lead team engagement efforts for proposals and community planning projects, coordinating across internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and professional development for team members
  • Research leads and facilitate strategy sessions with internal service leaders, project managers, clients, and partner firms to secure work in transportation, planning, and urban design service lines
  • Attend evening and weekend community meetings and events as needed
  • Travel to project sites and related locations as required
What We Are Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in Communication, Public Relations, Community Organizing, Marketing or related field
  • At least 10 years of work in public relations OR at least 10 years of work in a related field preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to work extremely well as part of a team
  • Excellent persuasion skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage sensitive or controversial subjects with tact, kindness, and professionalism
  • Possess a valid driver's license as travel to various facilities and job sites may be required
