Summary Specialized administrative tasks in developing, implementing, coordinating and presenting public fire prevention education, home safety and public relations for the City including responsibility for planning, development and implementation of fire safety educational programs for private and public schools, commercial business and industrial occupancies, individual residences, condominiums, apartment buildings and community groups within the City.
Essential Function Duties and Responsibilities Plans and develops public education programs on fire safety Contacts citizen and merchant groups to promote and provide fire safety education programs Develops audio visual materials such as slides, films, audio and video tapes, pamphlets and brochures to use in presenting fire safety programs Researches statistics and prepares reports, records and other documentation for distribution and use by the news media, Fire department or other interested groups and individuals Conducts and/or coordinates tours of the department and assists in seminars and conferences sponsored by the department Trains and supervises personnel in carrying out the public education programs Assists in the preparation of the fire prevention, safety and EMS campaigns Responsible for posting department related educational campaigns on social media, as well as works with the Media Relations department to promote educational initiatives Follows policies, procedures and standards for efficient and effective operation and maintenance of department operations Prepares a variety of studies, reports and related information for decision making purposes Prepares a variety of reports and maintains necessary operating records; retains all plans and information for future reference as well as maintains a library for fire research Maintains liaison with other departments as well as state, local, and other public officials Maintains effective working relationships with news media Establishes rapport with community groups and other civic organization through meetings, speeches and presentations Answers letters of inquiry and talks with visitors; addresses public and civic organizations which will inform public of policies and procedures Performs any other related duties as assigned PERIPHERAL DUTIES: Serves as a member of various City employee committees, as assigned Represents the City at meetings, when requested Minimum Qualifications Associate degree in a related field; Bachelor Degree preferred, and Florida Fire and Life Safety Educator Certification of Competency within 6 months of employment, and Valid State of Florida Driver's License is required Considerable experience in classroom instruction, public relations, public information or related field, or Any related combination of education, training, and experience
