Job description

Community Support Services of Missouri (CSS) has been in operation since 1978 supporting children and adults with developmental, intellectual, and physical disabilities. Position Summary

The ELC Child Development Assistant supports the ELC Child Development Teacher in the operational and educational environment of the early learning center. The program serves children of varying abilities, including children who may have developmental delays, challenging behaviors, as well as typically developing children through sound learning opportunities. The assistant also ensures compliance with Missouri Child Care Licensing requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Build positive trusting relationships with children, families, colleagues, and community representatives to support children and families.
  • Assist with planning and managing a developmentally appropriate program that is warm, welcoming and supportive of health, safety, and growth of children in the program that fosters independence.
  • Promote children’s development and learning by encouraging routines, and activities that facilitate children’s growth and development
  • Observe children regularly and individualize the program based on these observations.
  • Redirect behavior in positive and productive ways.
  • Continue to learn about children, families, and the field of early childhood education including participating in training, expanding skills and knowledge, learning new techniques and approaches.
  • Maintain professional standards and be ethical, including but not limited to maintaining confidentiality of children and families, following operational policies and procedures, and supporting a positive team interaction with all.

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required Education

  • HS Diploma or Equivalent

Qualifications

  • Obtain and maintain all required training and certifications in accordance with CSS policy.
  • A valid driver’s license and proof of current auto insurance is required.
  • Prefer One (1) year experience working with children

Physical Requirements

  • All employees should possess the ability to:
  • Lift 50 pounds or more on a repeated basis as required.
  • Potentially bend, stoop, kneel, and twist repeatedly.
  • Operate any required equipment with good dexterity.
  • Traverse changing terrain.
  • Periodically alternate between standing, sitting, and walking.
