Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the overall planning, execution, and reporting of a portfolio of projects and programs; overseeing the dependencies between interconnected projects and managing portfolio-level plans to achieve strategic objectives. The incumbent will manage a portfolio of projects that are typically less defined with a long duration, high risk and complexity, and are components of larger programs. The incumbent will be responsible for implementing project management processes and methodologies to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, adhere to quality standards and meet customer expectations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assembles project and program proposals, plans, schedules and appropriate resource allocations; defines the project's scope, goals, objectives, and deliverables; develops high-quality, integrated cross-functional plans and schedules.
  • Provides clear direction on project requirements and plans across the company at the project team, manager and director levels.
  • Manages work efforts of cross-functional project teams in order to deliver projects according to project and program plans.
  • Identifies project issues and proactively implements plans to resolve such issues and mitigate project impact.
  • Determines resource needs and ensures allocated resources are aligned with forecasted work.
  • Performs quality reviews of project deliverables for compliance to established practices and standards.
  • Tracks key project and program milestones and deliverables; adjusting project plans, schedules and resources utilizing approved change management practices to meet the requirements and needs of the customer through project completion and closeout.
  • Coordinates and escalates communication with all appropriate areas of the company to mitigate the impact of changes to project scope, budget, resources and risk.
  • Prepares reports and provides updates to internal staff, senior management and leadership teams that detail project status.
  • Leads project team members in the use of project management methods, standards and tools; implementing processes and methodologies to achieve successful projects.
  • Works with department managers and directors to identify areas of process improvement with aim of reducing cost, increasing quality, more effectively utilizing resources to consistently deliver projects on time
  • Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Science or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Five years of experience directly leading projects in multiple technologies and functions.
  • Project management certification or completion of a recognized project management curriculum or equivalent work experience required.
  • Experience in life science, GMP, government contracting or other regulated industry desired.
  • Two years of manager/supervisory experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong analytical background.
  • Logical problem solving and demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion.
  • Ability to manage, coach and develop team members while motivating them to meet and exceed goals.
  • Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy and reliability of project data.
    • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite; MS Project experience desired.
  • Ability to work with inter-departmental teams and with external stakeholders; interacting with a high level of patience, tact, and diplomacy, and can maintain composure under pressure.
  • Ability to exhibit a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
  • Ability to multi-task and work productively in a demanding financial environment with changing priorities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the individual is frequently required to sit or stand for long periods. The individual is occasionally required to walk, stand, and squat; use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The position is performed in a traditional office setting that is moderately quiet.
COMPENSATION SUMMARY
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $101,400. to $154,700. This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such as scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary. These annual bonuses are intended to recognize individual performance and enable employees to benefit from the Company's overall success.
