Job description

KIDS & COMMUNICATIONS LEAD
Sandals Church | Palm Ave Campus
Role Overview & Purpose
The Kids & Communications Lead serves a dual-purpose role at the Palm Ave campus, providing vision, leadership, and strategic execution across both Kids Ministry and campus-wide communications. This role exists to build healthy volunteer teams that disciple children, partner with parents, and clearly communicate the life and mission of Sandals Church so people can take meaningful next steps in their faith.
A central objective of this role is actively contributing to the overall growth of the Palm Ave campus and Sandals Church Kids specifically-driving both spiritual and relational depth (discipleship, team health, culture of belonging) alongside measurable numerical growth (attendance, volunteer mobilization, family participation).
The primary focus of this position is leading people and building systems, not carrying out all execution alone. The Kids & Communications Lead multiplies impact by recruiting, equipping, and empowering adult and student volunteers to lead in both ministry areas.
  • Location: Palm Avenue | Riverside, CA
  • Reports To: Palm Avenue Campus Pastor
  • Hours: Full-Time | 40 hours per week (25 hrs/week Kids | 15 hrs/week Communications)
Core Responsibilities
1. Kids Ministry Leadership
  • Vision & Culture: Cast compelling vision for Sandals Church Kids (SCK) that aligns with church values. Shape and protect a culture centered on fun, authenticity, discipleship, and passion.
  • Hospitality & Belonging: Champion a culture of intentional hospitality where every child and parent feels a genuine sense of belonging-ensuring they feel seen, known, and valued from the moment they arrive.
  • Fun & Weekend Experience: Oversee safe, warm, and highly engaging weekend environments. Ensure check-in is welcoming and efficient, create safe rooms for babies through preschoolers, and lead fun, high-energy elementary services (including engaging games, interactive Bible stories, energetic worship, and response times). Keep all spaces clean and organized.
  • Ministry Growth & Reach: Intentionally focus on growing SCK in both depth and reach-deepening spiritual growth, leader health, and relational connection while actively driving growth in kid attendance, parent engagement, and volunteer recruitment.
  • Team Building & Discipleship: Recruit, onboard, train, and disciple adult and student volunteers ("Real Team"). Develop team leads and give away meaningful ministry leadership.
  • Curriculum & Programming: Collaborate with central staff to execute curriculum with excellence and equip volunteers to teach confidently.
  • Parent Partnership: Resource, equip, and encourage parents as the primary spiritual nurturers of their children's faith while creating touchpoints that foster parent belonging and connection.
2. Campus Communications Leadership
  • Strategy & Planning: Develop and manage a comprehensive campus communication calendar covering events, initiatives, emails, and social media. Partner with campus leaders to prioritize clear, effective messaging over information overload.
  • Email & Digital Channels: Plan, write, edit, and schedule regular campus email newsletters and oversee social media publishing rhythms with clear calls to action.
  • Brand, Voice & Storytelling: Steward the Palm Ave tone within Sandals Church brand standards. Identify and share meaningful stories of life change, serving, and community.
  • Campaigns & Promotion: Build and execute simple communication plans for special events, ministry initiatives, and seasonal moments. Coordinate with central communication teams for larger brand/design support.
  • Volunteer Team Development: Recruit, equip, and coach a volunteer creative team (photographers, videographers, writers, social media contributors) to expand communication capacity.
3. Campus Collaboration & General Leadership
  • Campus Growth Support: Actively partner with campus leadership to expand the reach and deepen the overall impact of the Palm Ave campus.
  • Unified Staff Alignment: Serve as an active, supportive member of the campus staff team.
  • Campus Support: Mobilize volunteer teams to support campus-wide events, midweek needs, and general discipleship initiatives.
  • Personal Growth: Lead self spiritually, mentally, and emotionally, giving and receiving feedback to continually grow as a leader.
Key Expectations & Deliverables
  • Kids Ministry (SCK): Deliver fun, vibrant, and high-energy discipleship environments rooted in genuine hospitality so children and parents feel seen, known, and welcomed. Maintain clean spaces, dynamic large-group programming, smooth check-in, equipped parent partnerships, and consistent growth in SCK attendance and leader health.
  • Campus Communications: Deliver clear, relational, and timely communication across digital platforms. Maintain consistent email/social media rhythms and build structured communication plans for campus initiatives.
  • Volunteer Leadership & Campus Growth: Multiply overall team capacity through intentional volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and training. Contribute directly to expanding overall campus participation, engagement, and spiritual depth across Palm Ave.
Candidate Profile
Ideal Strengths & Skills
  • Leadership & Team Building: Passionate about recruiting, coaching, and empowering volunteers rather than executing all work independently.
  • Hospitality & Heart for People: Warm, welcoming, and intentional about creating fun environments where parents and kids feel seen, known, and valued.
  • Growth Mindset: Strategic focus on driving both spiritual depth and numerical/attendance growth across ministries.
  • Communication & Storytelling: Strong writer and editor with high judgment regarding tone, clarity, and brand consistency.
  • Organization & Strategy: Skilled at managing calendars, establishing systems, and balancing multiple priorities.
  • Relational & Energetic: Ability to connect authentically with children, parents, volunteers, and campus staff.
  • Adaptability & Initiative: Proactive, teachable, and positive when navigating change or leading through strategic shifts.
What Success Looks Like
  • Children and families experience a fun, high-energy, and hospitable environment where kids grow closer to Jesus and every family feels a true sense of belonging (seen and known).
  • SCK and Palm Ave consistently show healthy growth-both in depth (stronger relationships, volunteer health) and in numbers (increased attendance and volunteer participation).
  • Parents feel supported and equipped as the primary spiritual influence in their children's lives.
  • Campus attenders clearly understand campus events, initiatives, and opportunities to take their next steps.
  • Stories of life change and ministry impact are regularly captured and shared across campus channels.
  • Healthy volunteer teams in both Kids Ministry and Communications actively own deliverables, operations, and storytelling.

Pay Range: $20-23 per hour
