What's the role. Join our team as a Communications Coordinator*. The City of Chino Hills is seeking a creative and collaborative communications professional with exceptional writing skills, and a strong understanding of media relations, public communications, and social media.

In this role, you'll be part of a collaborative communications team and help develop engaging content, support City Council communications, and help strengthen connections between the City and our community. Please note: An eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies. This position is advertised using the working title Communications Coordinator*.

The official classification is Community Relations Analyst I/II and is flexibly staffed. The ability to translate complex City initiatives into clear, accurate, and engaging messages for the public. Experience managing website and social media content, promoting community events, working with the media and developing multimedia communications. A collaborative professional who can support City Council and executive leadership communications with professionalism and discretion.

Someone who can communicate effectively during routine operations and real-time emergency situations to help keep the community informed. Essential Duties You May Be Responsible For: Participate in marketing and communications activities and assist in coordinating specialized City programs to ensure public awareness and understanding. Assist with website updates, provide training to departments, report issues, and troubleshoot technical problems.

Coordinate special events, arrange audiovisual equipment and media, and oversee vendor work. Write and edit press releases, news articles, and materials regarding City programs and events for print and digital media. Establish liaisons and disseminate information to media organizations and community groups; perform public speaking activities as needed.

The official classification is Community Relations Analyst I/II. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be to meet the minimum qualifications of: EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Community Relations Analyst II: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in marketing, communications and media relations used in the public sector. Community Relations Analyst I: One (1) year of responsible administrative and analytical experience in marketing, communications, or media relations.

Desired Qualifications Experience supporting City Council and executive leadership communications. Experience managing social media platforms and creating engaging digital content. Proficiency in graphic design and developing visually compelling marketing materials.

Experience with media relations, including writing press releases and coordinating with media outlets. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public relations, journalism, communications, marketing or a related field. LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION: Possession of a California Class C Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION Prospective employees who are selected for employment must successfully complete a medical examination and background check, which is paid for by the City. The background check will include being LiveScan fingerprinted through the Department of Justice. All original appointments who have never held active status in a classification will be required to serve a 26-pay period probationary period (approximately one year).

If a current employee who has held active status is selected, it will be considered a promotional appointment, and they will be required to serve a 13-pay period probationary period (approximately six months).
