Responsibilities

Our HR team at Mortenson is growing! The team has many opportunities for an intern to learn and provide value and a fresh perspective to key projects we will be accomplishing in 2027! This integrated experience as our Human Resources Intern will allow you to support multiple teams, assisting with a variety of projects and day-to-day tasks. Our department includes teams with these focus areas:  these focus areas:

  • Talent Acquisition 

  • Training & Development 

  • Highlights of your time with this Mortenson internship will include:

  • Partner with a mentor to guide your work through the summer 

  • Support projects that are critical to our department's key initiatives for the year, which may include: 

  • Attending meetings

  • Conducting research

  • Gathering data and benchmarking 

  • Drafting communications 

  • Managing logistics 

  • Providing updates to stakeholders 

  • Assist with annual processes that initiate within HR, for example: onboarding, succession planning, Career Development Discussions, annual performance review cycle, compensation cycle, etc.

  • Conduct analysis of company metrics, such as hiring, performance, succession planning, and turnover

  • Create and review job descriptions for both professional and trade positions, ensuring alignment with current roles by auditing existing descriptions

  • Assist with day-to-day duties as assigned across departments

Program Overview:

Our summer intern program (May - August 2027) is designed to give you real, hands-on experience from day one, working on meaningful projects that directly impact the business. You'll gain exposure to innovative work, build professional skills through development opportunities, and be supported by a team that values your growth. Your ideas matter here, and you'll have the chance to contribute, learn, and make a difference while exploring your career path.

Required Qualifications:

Cultivate your skills in your chosen field of study and build your career with Mortenson. We look forward to hearing from you if you:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate, four-year degree in Human Resources, Business, or other related degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have previous related internship experience

  • Are currently enrolled as an undergraduate junior

  • Have a basic understanding of construction and generally accepted business practices

  • Demonstrate strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills and show initiative and leadership

  • Showcase a positive and professional attitude and solid customer service skills

  • Are detail-oriented, organized, and can effectively handle multiple competing priorities

The hourly wage for college Interns starts at $18. Students may be paid higher wages based on their year in school.
