What are Commission Turf Sales?

Commission Turf Sales refers to the role of selling turf products—such as grass seed, sod, or artificial turf—for landscaping, sports fields, or residential use, where the salesperson earns a commission based on the sales they generate. Professionals in this field typically work for turf suppliers or landscaping companies and are responsible for finding clients, understanding their turf needs, and recommending suitable products. The commission-based structure means their earnings are directly tied to their sales performance, incentivizing strong customer service and sales skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Commission Turf Sales Representative, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Commission Turf Sales Representative, you need a solid understanding of turf products, sales strategies, and relevant market knowledge, often supported by experience in agricultural or landscape sales. Familiarity with CRM software, point-of-sale systems, and possibly certifications in horticulture or agronomy are highly beneficial. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills help you connect with clients and close deals. These skills and qualifications are crucial for meeting sales targets, building a loyal customer base, and driving business growth in a competitive market.

What are some common challenges faced by commission turf sales professionals and how can they be managed?

Commission turf sales professionals often encounter challenges such as building a reliable client base, managing seasonal fluctuations in demand, and staying updated on industry trends and new products. Success in this role typically requires strong networking skills, consistent follow-up with leads, and an in-depth understanding of turf products and customer needs. Many professionals find it helpful to develop long-term relationships with landscapers, sports facility managers, and golf course superintendents, as well as participating in industry events to expand their network and knowledge.

Job description

Description
$100,000 to $170,000+ OTE | 100% Commission | 7.5% of Everything You Sell
$5,000/month guaranteed draw during your first 90 days
Most home services sales jobs expect you to cold-call your way to a paycheck. This one doesn't.
Peak Sodding is the leading residential sod and artificial turf installation company in North Carolina's Triangle area. We've built our reputation on 200+ five-star Google reviews by doing what most landscaping companies don't: communicating proactively, delivering exceptional quality, and treating every client like they matter.
Here's what that means for you:
  • We supply you with qualified, inbound leads. Our marketing generates a consistent flow of homeowners who are actively looking for sod installation, and our staff has already booked the appointments for you. You spend your time closing, not prospecting from scratch.
  • You have a dedicated Sales Manager. Weekly pipeline reviews, coaching, and someone who has your back. Not someone who micromanages. You'll be supported, not smothered.
  • Systems are already built. CRM, quoting tools, SOPs for follow-up, estimation, and handoff all exist so you can focus on selling, not figuring out processes.
  • The brand sells itself. When you show up to a consultation, the homeowner has already seen our reviews and reputation. You're not overcoming brand skepticism. You're confirming what they already believe.
  • The average job size is $8,300. You're not grinding out $500 transactions. Each sale is meaningful, and our premium positioning means you don't have to compete on price.

This role gets you outside, meeting people, and solving real problems for homeowners without grinding 60-hour workweeks. Our top performers work smart, stay disciplined, and earn great money while maintaining the life outside of work that matters to them.
You'll spend your days driving the Triangle area, meeting clients at their homes, and closing deals. Not sitting in a cubicle making cold calls. If you want a sales role where your skills directly drive your income and you can see the results of your work in every yard you drive past, this is it.
Here's exactly how the compensation works:
  • Commission Rate: 7.5% of gross revenue on every sale you close.
  • Structure: 100% commission. No base salary. Your income is driven entirely by your results.
  • 90-Day Guaranteed Draw: $5,000/month minimum income during your first 90 days (non-recoverable). This is not a loan. It's a guarantee while you ramp.
  • Commission Timing: 50% paid on signed agreement and deposit. 50% paid on project completion.

What the math actually looks like:
Our sales professionals run approximately 450 consultations per year. At our average job size of $8,300 and a 7.5% commission rate, here's what your annual earnings look like based on close rate:
  • 35% close rate: 158 jobs sold, $1,311,400 revenue, $98,355 earnings
  • 40% close rate: 180 jobs sold, $1,494,000 revenue, $112,050 earnings
  • 45% close rate (target): 203 jobs sold, $1,684,900 revenue, $126,368 earnings
  • 50% close rate: 225 jobs sold, $1,867,500 revenue, $140,063 earnings
  • 55% close rate: 248 jobs sold, $2,058,400 revenue, $154,380 earnings
  • 60% close rate: 270 jobs sold, $2,241,000 revenue, $168,075 earnings

These are real numbers based on actual lead volume and job sizes, not theoretical projections. You can do the math yourself.
