What is a commission sales agent?

Commission sales agents are professionals who earn all or most of their income through commissions, which are payments based on the sales they make. Instead of receiving a fixed salary, they are paid a percentage of the value of the goods or services they sell. Commission sales agents are common in industries like real estate, insurance, retail, and wholesale. Their income potential often depends on their sales performance, making the job well-suited for motivated individuals who enjoy working towards targets.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a commission sales agent?

To thrive as a Commission Sales Agent, you need strong sales acumen, product knowledge, and effective negotiation skills, often supported by a high school diploma or relevant sales certifications. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software, point-of-sale systems, and digital communication tools is typically required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, resilience, and self-motivation help agents build relationships and persist through challenges. These competencies are crucial for consistently meeting sales targets and sustaining client satisfaction in a competitive environment.

How does a commission sales agent typically collaborate with other departments to close deals?

Commission Sales Agents often work closely with marketing, customer service, and product teams to ensure they have up-to-date information and resources that support the sales process. Effective collaboration helps agents understand customer needs, address questions, and tailor presentations to highlight relevant solutions. By maintaining open communication with these departments, agents can respond quickly to client inquiries, resolve issues, and ultimately increase their chances of closing deals. This teamwork is especially important when handling complex sales or coordinating customized offers.

Job description

About Tailored Consulting Group
Tailored Consulting Group (TCG) is a growing boutique consulting firm helping hospitality, healthcare, med spa, salon, and aesthetics businesses strengthen their online presence through professionally built websites and strategic marketing.
We are building a scalable sales team and are looking for a confident, relationship-driven Commission Sales Agent who knows how to connect with business owners, understand their needs, present the right solution, and close.
About the Role
This is a commission-only, 1099 independent contractor opportunity. There is no base salary. There is ability for growth with this company.
TCG provides the lead list, established website solutions, sales resources, and fulfillment team. Your primary responsibility is to develop relationships with prospects, conduct sales conversations, follow up consistently, and close new business.
You will primarily sell website builds, with opportunities to identify clients who may also benefit from TCG's ongoing marketing services.
This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable with performance-based compensation and wants the flexibility and earning potential that comes with commission sales.
What You'll Do
- Connect with TCG-provided prospects and leads.
- Build relationships with business owners and key decision-makers.
- Conduct discovery and sales conversations.
- Identify each prospect's website, marketing, and business needs.
- Recommend the appropriate TCG solution.
- Present pricing and confidently ask for the sale.
- Maintain consistent follow-up with prospects.
- Track leads, conversations, follow-ups, and closed business.
- Communicate accurate expectations regarding TCG services.
- Transition closed clients smoothly to our onboarding and fulfillment team.
- Represent the TCG brand professionally in every interaction.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is:
- Confident communicating with business owners and decision-makers.
- Comfortable closing sales and asking for the business.
- Relationship-driven rather than overly transactional.
- Consistent and disciplined with follow-up.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Coachable and receptive to feedback.
- Organized and accountable.
- Results-driven.
- Interested in growing alongside an expanding firm.
Preferred Experience
Previous sales experience is strongly preferred, particularly in:
- B2B sales
- Commission-based sales
- Website or digital marketing sales
- Agency or professional-services sales
- Hospitality
- Restaurants or hotels
- Healthcare or dental practices
- Med spas, salons, or aesthetics
Candidates without direct industry experience may still be considered if they demonstrate strong sales ability, communication skills, and willingness to learn.
Compensation
This is a commission-only 1099 contractor position with no base salary.
Your earning potential is directly connected to your sales performance.
TCG provides the leads and fulfillment infrastructure so you can focus on developing opportunities, building relationships, following up, and closing business.
As TCG grows, there may be opportunities for high-performing sales agents to grow with the firm's expanding sales organization.
What Success Looks Like
We aren't looking for someone who simply makes a few calls and waits for a sale.
We're looking for someone who takes ownership of their pipeline, follows up consistently, develops genuine relationships, learns our offers, understands our clients, and works opportunities through to a decision.
If you're competitive, personable, comfortable talking with business owners, and motivated by creating your own earning potential, we'd like to hear from you.
