Job description

Purpose

The Sales Engineer supports growth of Oceaneering Mobile Robotics (OMR) by developing technically sound, commercially competitive proposals for Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) and Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) systems. This role serves as the technical-commercial bridge between customers, sales, engineering, and operations, translating customer workflows and requirements into practical automation solutions that deliver measurable operational value.

Oceaneering is a global provider of engineered services and products, primarily to the offshore energy industry. We develop products and services for use throughout the lifecycle of an offshore oilfield, from drilling to decommissioning. We operate the world's premier fleet of work class ROVs. Additionally, we are a leader in offshore oilfield maintenance services, umbilicals, subsea hardware, and tooling. We also use applied technology expertise to serve the defense, material handling, aerospace, science, and renewable energy industries.

Required Qualifications
 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related technical field
  • 1-3 years of experience in technical sales, sales engineering, applications engineering, or system design within an industrial or automation environment
     
  • Strong engineering fundamentals with the ability to translate operational workflows into practical technical solutions
     
  • Comfortable engaging with customers to gather requirements and explain technical concepts clearly and professionally
     
  • Proficiency with common engineering or proposal tools (e.g., CAD viewing, Excel-based cost models, technical documentation)
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct exposure to AGV, AMR, or industrial automation systems (internships, early career roles, projects, or co-ops count)
     
  • Experience supporting technical proposals, system layouts, assumptions/exclusions, or risk documentation
     
  • Familiarity with manufacturing, warehousing, or material handling environments
     
  • Experience collaborating with crossfunctional teams (sales, controls, operations, engineering)
     
  • Willingness to travel domestically (up to ~25-50%) and participate in onsite demos or customer visits

Working Conditions

Hybrid work role based in Houston, TX or Ft. Wayne, IN. Travel required 25%-50% within the United States.

Physical Activity / Requirements

This position is considered light work, including occasional lifting up to 25 pounds and the ability to walk, stand, and wear PPE during facility tours as required.

  • Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Controls, and Operations to create customer-specific automation concepts.

  • Prepare technical descriptions, assumptions, exclusions, and risk narratives for proposals.

  • Participate in customer discussions to understand operational constraints and performance needs.

  • Assist with pricing inputs, cost models, and commercial trade studies.

  • Support technical clarifications and proposal revisions throughout the sales lifecycle.

  • Ensure proposed solutions align with validated OMR product capabilities.

  • Create thought leadership content, use-case studies, and technical marketing inputs.

  • Support Marketing with accurate technical content for presentations and social media.

  • Plan, host, and operate virtual and in-person demos in Houston, TX or Ft. Wayne, IN.

  • Control demo systems and explain functionality to customers during demonstrations.
