Description
Hampton University is seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable Assistant Softball Coach to support the operations and competitive success of the Softball program. The Assistant Coach will assist with coaching, recruiting, player development, academic support, and daily administrative functions while upholding the mission, values, and NCAA compliance standards of Hampton University and its Athletics Department.
Examples of Duties
• Assist the Head Softball Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting team practices, training sessions, and competitive events
• Provide position-specific instruction, skill development, and game preparation for student-athletes
• Assist with recruiting efforts, including identifying prospective student-athletes, communicating with recruits, coordinating official and unofficial visits, and ensuring NCAA compliance
• Support the academic success and personal development of student-athletes through mentoring and monitoring academic progress
• Assist with game-day operations, scouting reports, video analysis, and opponent preparation
• Support team travel planning, scheduling, equipment management, and practice logistics
• Promote a positive team culture that emphasizes discipline, sportsmanship, leadership, and accountability
• Assist with community engagement, alumni relations, fundraising activities, and program promotion
• Ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, and Hampton University rules and regulations
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Softball Coach or Director of Athletics
Typical Qualifications
• Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
• Demonstrated knowledge of softball techniques, strategies, and player development
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous collegiate coaching or playing experience
• Recruiting experience at the collegiate level
• Experience working with diverse student populations
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or willingness to obtain
