Position Summary

The Controller is a key finance leader who partners closely with the Chief Financial Officer to ensure the companyโ€™s financial reporting is accurate, timely, and reliable. This role oversees the full monthly, quarterly, and annual close and financial reporting process and plays a critical part in maintaining the integrity of the companyโ€™s financial information. In addition to owning the general ledger structure, accounting policies, and internal controls, the Controller leads the Accounting team and provides both strategic direction and hands-on leadership. This position offers the opportunity to strengthen processes, support business decision-making, and help build scalable financial practices as the organization grows.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end monthly close process, including the review and reconciliation of all general ledger accounts, to ensure accurate and timely financial results
  • Prepare, review, and distribute monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal and external stakeholders, including required lender and bank reporting
  • Manage and mentor the Accounting team, setting clear priorities and ensuring deadlines and service-level expectations are consistently met
  • Serve as a trusted financial resource to senior leadership by providing insight into financial results, variance analysis, and ad hoc reporting
  • Oversee payroll processing for hourly, salaried, and commissioned employees, including administration of commission structures and calculations
  • Manage daily corporate banking activities, including cash monitoring, ACH and wire transfers, and treasury-related support
  • Oversee sales tax, IFTA, and other regulatory filings and reporting on a monthly and annual basis
  • Support the development and ongoing management of annual budgets, forecasts, and resource planning initiatives
  • Coordinate all audit, tax, and financial review activities, acting as the primary liaison with external auditors and third-party advisors
  • Identify opportunities to enhance accounting processes, systems, and workflows to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Partner with the CFO on special projects, strategic initiatives, and process improvements
  • Perform other duties and support initiatives as assigned by senior management

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • CPA with a public accounting foundation required.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Controllerโ€‘level or comparable leadership responsibility, ideally in distribution, manufacturing, or inventoryโ€‘intensive environments.
  • Strong expertise in inventory accounting, cost accounting, and gross margin analysis, with a proven ability to improve close processes and move toward an auditโ€‘ready environment.
  • Handsโ€‘on leader comfortable owning transactional accounting while building scalable processes to support growth and potential acquisitions.
  • Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, or FP&A activities is a plus.
  • ERP experience required (Epicor preferred), along with advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with operations and sales in a fastโ€‘paced, deadlineโ€‘driven environment while leading and developing a team.
