Job description

Position Overview:
The Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) will provide expert-level support in injury prevention, physical conditioning, rehabilitation, and performance optimization for high-performance personnel. This role supports operational training programs and ensures personnel are physically prepared to meet demanding job requirements. The ATC will work closely with leadership, instructors, and staff to enhance training outcomes, reduce injury risk, and promote overall wellness.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelorโ€™s or masterโ€™s degree from a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) accredited program

  • Current certification as an Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification (BOC)

  • Eligibility for state licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the state of employment

  • Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Required Experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year of specialized experience managing sports or activity-related injuries, including:

    • Acute care management

    • Development and implementation of individualized rehabilitation programs

    • Application of therapeutic modalities

  • Experience working with elite populations (e.g., collegiate athletes, Olympic/professional athletes, military special operations forces, or federal tactical personnel)

  • Proficiency with:

    • Advanced rehabilitation technologies and equipment

    • Computer-based performance and evaluation software

    • Instructional and therapeutic training tools

  • Strong program and project management skills, with emphasis on tracking and improving human performance metrics

Physical & Performance Requirements
  • Must successfully complete and achieve a minimum rating of โ€œExcellentโ€ on all components of the USMS Physical Efficiency Battery (based on age and gender standards)

  • Ability to lift, push, and drag up to 100 pounds

  • Must respond to all support requests (calls/emails) from personnel within 24 hours

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement physical training and injury prevention programs to enhance operational training courses

  • Provide instruction on physical conditioning, injury prevention, and general health and wellness

  • Assist in creating standard operating procedures (SOPs), guidelines, and safe-use protocols for training equipment

  • Support and provide consultation for the USMS Fitness (FIT) Program

  • Coordinate individualized rehabilitation and return-to-training plans with training staff

  • Evaluate personnel for new or undiagnosed conditions and recommend appropriate interventions

  • Participate in program reviews to assess effectiveness and identify improvements

  • Research and implement emerging technologies to enhance performance and recovery

  • Maintain certifications through required continuing education (contractor responsible for associated costs)

  • Perform administrative duties including:

    • Data collection and analysis

    • Recordkeeping and documentation

    • Report writing

    • Participation in quality assurance initiatives

  • Maintain inventory of medical and training supplies and recommend procurement needs

  • Ensure all equipment and facilities are safe, organized, and operational

  • Promote a culture of health, fitness, nutrition, and wellness across the organization

  • Support additional duties as assigned by leadership within scope of role

  • Participate in limited travel to support program objectives

Additional Responsibilities (Program Leadership)
  • Plan and conduct at least one conference (as required) focused on improving strength, conditioning, and injury prevention strategies for operational personnel
