A prominent, mid-sized North Carolina business defense law firm is seeking a skilled Transportation Litigation Legal Assistant for its regional civil defense practice. This position supports a fast-paced team of trial attorneys specializing in logistics, catastrophic injury, and commercial transportation defense.
The ideal candidate brings deep familiarity with North Carolina state and federal court rules, thrives under tight deadlines, and possesses advanced electronic filing capabilities. This role offers direct collaboration with practice partners and significant ownership of the daily case management lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Advanced Court E-Filing: Format, proofread, and electronically file pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and discovery documents via NC eCourts (Odyssey) and federal CM/ECF systems.
- Docketing & Calendaring: Manage complex attorney calendars, tracking statutory deadlines, court appearances, depositions, and mediations to ensure strict compliance with civil procedure.
- Trial & Discovery Support: Draft legal correspondence, compile deposition binders, coordinate with expert witnesses, and organize medical records or accident scene data.
- Case Lifecycle Management: Maintain organized, hyper-compliant electronic case files within the firm’s centralized document management database from initial intake through resolution.
- Professional Communication: Act as a key liaison between defense counsel, insurance adjusters, corporate clients, court officials, and opposing counsel.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 2–3+ years of civil litigation legal assistant experience inside a law firm environment (transportation or insurance defense preferred).
- Procedural Expertise: Strong foundational knowledge of North Carolina civil procedure, federal local rules, and legal terminology.
- Technical Proficiency: Mastery of NC Judicial Branch eCourts portals, federal Pacer/ECF systems, and legal calendaring applications.
