What is a commercial lending associate?

Commercial Lending Associates are financial professionals who support the loan process for businesses seeking financing from banks or other financial institutions. They assist loan officers and relationship managers by analyzing financial statements, preparing loan documents, conducting due diligence, and helping to structure loan deals. Their role is vital in ensuring that commercial loans are processed efficiently and in compliance with banking regulations. Commercial Lending Associates often serve as a key liaison between clients, credit officers, and internal teams throughout the loan lifecycle.

What are some common challenges commercial lending associates face when managing multiple loan applications simultaneously?

Commercial Lending Associates often handle several loan applications at once, which can create challenges in prioritizing tasks and meeting tight deadlines. Balancing accuracy in documentation, compliance checks, and effective communication with both clients and internal teams is essential to ensure smooth processing. Strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities are key to overcoming these challenges and maintaining client satisfaction.

Job description

Title: Commercial Lending Associate Attorney
Location: New York, NY (Hybrid - 3 Days In Office)
Experience: 3–5 Years | Banking & Finance / Commercial Lending

About the Opportunity

TalentoHC is partnering with a well-established boutique law firm seeking a Commercial Lending Associate Attorney to join its Banking & Finance practice in New York. This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with 3–5 years of experience representing lenders in commercial lending transactions who is looking to work closely with experienced partners in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment. The practice is primarily focused on representing commercial banks, financial institutions, and other lenders in a wide variety of secured and unsecured financing transactions. Associates are given meaningful responsibility, direct client exposure, and the opportunity to manage transactions from structuring through closing while working alongside seasoned Banking & Finance attorneys.
This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney seeking sophisticated commercial lending work in a boutique setting that offers close mentorship, hands-on experience, and long-term professional growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent commercial banks, financial institutions, and other lenders in secured and unsecured commercial lending transactions.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial loan documentation, including credit agreements, loan agreements, security agreements, guaranties, and related financing documents.

  • Assist with structuring, documenting, and closing commercial lending transactions.

  • Conduct legal due diligence and review collateral documentation.

  • Work directly with partners and clients throughout all phases of financing transactions.

  • Manage multiple lending transactions simultaneously while maintaining exceptional attention to detail and responsiveness.

  • Support borrower-side financing matters as needed, though the practice is primarily lender-focused.

  • Collaborate with attorneys across practice groups to provide practical, business-oriented legal solutions.

  • Maintain strong client relationships through excellent communication and responsive service.

  • Stay current on developments in commercial lending and banking law.

Qualifications

  • Admission to the New York Bar required.

  • Approximately 3–5 years of commercial lending or Banking & Finance experience.

  • Experience representing commercial banks, financial institutions, private credit funds, or other institutional lenders.

  • Strong experience drafting and negotiating commercial lending and financing documentation.

  • Experience handling secured and unsecured commercial lending transactions.

  • Big Law experience preferred; strong candidates from respected mid-sized or boutique firms will also be considered.

  • Excellent drafting, analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple transactions in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

What We're Looking For

  • A collaborative attorney who enjoys working closely with partners and clients.

  • A proactive professional who takes ownership of transactions from inception through closing.

  • A strong communicator with exceptional client service skills.

  • An attorney who thrives in a team-oriented, entrepreneurial environment.

  • Someone seeking long-term growth while continuing to work on sophisticated commercial lending matters.

Benefits

  • Competitive benefits package.

  • Hybrid work schedule (3 days in the New York office).

  • Collaborative and supportive work environment.

  • Direct mentorship from experienced Banking & Finance partners.

  • Meaningful client exposure and opportunities for professional growth.

Compensation

Base Salary: $220,000–$250,000, depending on experience and fit.
Bonus: Annual performance-based bonus opportunity.
