Job description

About Column
For companies building financial technology and transforming the financial services space, the biggest bottleneck to their growth and innovation is often the underlying banks and infrastructure stack they rely on. We have spent our careers founding and scaling companies like Plaid, Square, Meta, Blend, and Affirm, and have seen this problem firsthand - builders and developers needing to partner with traditional banks, and creating API and abstraction layers over the patchwork that is the bank, its core, and many other vendors. All of this results in a complex (and often expensive) banking supply chain involving a user, fintech, BaaS middleware provider, bank, core and the Federal Reserve.
At Column, we set out to simplify and fix this. We are a bank and a software company built from the ground up, offering builders and developers technology-forward banking solutions that cut out the hundreds of vendors, middleware providers, and abstraction layers. This means a safer, more transparent, and less costly banking supply chain. Come build with us!
The opportunity
Column's Growth team is focused on managing our highly strategic customer relationships. As a member of the Growth team, you'll be responsible for building and overseeing all aspects of our customer management while acting as a trusted partner, advisor and advocate for a wide variety of customers. You will also be in charge of designing and implementing the strategy, processes, and content needed to help us scale this key function.
Column's Growth team is not your typical Customer Success or Account Management team in that Column is a critical, often existential, partner for our customers, our customer relationships are deeply collaborative and complex, and each customer contributes meaningfully to our revenue. We're therefore looking for team members who are analytical, demonstrate great critical thinking, and have experience managing very strategic relationships.
This role is highly cross-functional and collaborative, partnering closely with Column's Executive, Solutions Engineering, Sales, Compliance, and Product teams to ensure customers are onboarded smoothly, that we can anticipate and address both issues and opportunities for growth, and that these relationships are healthy and mutually beneficial. You'll also represent the voice of the customer to help inform Column's strategy, including the product roadmap, go-to-market motions and more.
Success in this role also means having a desire to become an expert on the Financial Technology space and on how companies partner with Column (our customers include many key industry players such as Brex and Carta). This role reports to the Head of Growth and is an in-person role, where you'll be expected to work out of our San Francisco Presidio-based office 3+ days a week.
What you'll do
  • Help establish our customer-facing strategy, processes, playbooks, systems and best practices. Identify patterns and build repeatability at every step
  • Manage all aspects of a customer's relationship with Column, from onboarding and implementation to ongoing management and expansion of the account
  • Build and nurture relationships across various functions within a customer's organization, identifying and creating advocates wherever you go, and helping find new use cases for partnering with Column
  • Proactively identify challenges and opportunities for growth, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to find solutions in order to move the relationship forward
  • Share key findings and recommendations on market feedback and trends to inform Column's growth strategy and product roadmap
  • Perform day-to-day activities consistent with safe and sound business practices and regulatory requirements
What you'll need to be successful
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience -- strong preference for a mix of Consulting, Private Equity, Investment Banking, VC or an equivalent role plus operating experience in an early stage company and/or selling a new line of business
  • A desire to become very knowledgeable on the financial technology and payments space. Prior experience in financial services can be helpful but certainly not required.
  • A growth and critical thinking mindset: You're comfortable navigating ambiguous environments and are energized by the prospect of helping build processes with little guidance
  • Excellent project management: You're organized, can manage all aspects of partnering with customers, and effectively work with other internal teams.
  • Ability to turn naysayers into champions: You're a persuasive communicator and understand the importance of being helpful, responsive, and solutions-oriented.
  • Curiosity: You know what questions to ask to uncover and understand customer needs and proactively learn more about the industry, competitive landscape, and product offerings to better support your customers
  • Insatiable hunger for improvement: you're a naturally curious person, enjoy digging into the data, and regularly solicit feedback

What you'll get from us
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision plans, including options that are 100% covered by Column for you and 100% covered for your dependents!
  • Comprehensive family planning and fertility benefits via partnership with Carrot, including reimbursement of up to $20,000 in qualified expenses
  • Up to $2,000 (post-tax) monthly rent subsidy for employees living within 2 miles of Column's office
  • FSA and HSA account options to enable use of pre-tax money for medical and dependent care expenses
  • 401k plan, including self-directed brokerage options
  • Flexible time-off policy - take the time off that you want and need to relax and recharge
  • 100% paid parental leave, including 16 weeks for birth mothers, 12 weeks for primary caregivers, and 8 weeks for secondary caregivers
  • Up to $4,500 in annual reimbursements for backup childcare
  • Catered lunches and dinners for SF employees
  • Commuter benefits, including paid transportation to-and-from the office
  • Regular team building events, including annual offsite
Pay transparency
Compensation packages at Column include base salary, equity, and benefits. New hire offers are made based on a candidate's experience, expertise, geographic location, and internal pay equity relative to peers.
The annual base salary range for this position is $140,000 - $250,000 + equity.
We look forward to hearing from you
