Job Title
Color Blend Technician
Position Overview
Position Objective: Operates all compounding extrusion systems and PET processing
equipment, at posted process specifications while insuring quality color
products meet requirements.
Essential Duties (Considering job knowledge, job environment, effort, manipulative skill,
judgment, safety knowledge, and responsibility):
Note: Specific requirements for the job can be found in the associate job procedures.
1. Operates all compounding extrusion systems at posted process specifications while
insuring quality color products meet the following requirements:
a) Finished product is free of contamination.
b) Finished product is consistently the correct color shade, correct pellet form and
size.
2. Reviews status of work in progress with off going Compound (Line) Operator.
3. Records operating conditions reading at the start of the shift, every hour, any condition
change and start up.
4. Performs screen pack change procedure as required to keep extruder back pressure
within process specification tolerances.
5. Insures correct additive are blended per the pre-mix. Checks container label. Verifies
color of pigment, per labeling and the pre mix sheet. Notifies management of any
discrepancy.
6. Insures all additives are blended at the correct percentages with the on line blender.
Enters all percentages into blender. Insures a constant supply of raw material to all
blender weigh hoppers. Enters weigh hopper presets into the blender control computer.
Determines and installs correct gearbox/auger/sleeve combinations for each weigh
hopper at product change. Calibrates weigh hoppers at every product change of each
shift. Monitors all blender critical functions and records on operating conditions form
and color batch verification form as required.

7. Performs color change procedure as required. Saves all remaining material from
previous batch for recycling, package and delivers to Color Weigh and Inventory
Technician. Cleans and prepares on line blender for upcoming color batch. Determines
amount of purging necessary to make transition from one color batch to the next with
least amount of waste possible and no contamination of color batch being started up.
Purges compound line. Disassembles Rotex screener. Cleans all pellets and dust from
pelletizing system components and material handling components. Reassembles Rotex
screener. Sets pelletizer blades. Insures downstream equipment is ready to receive
product before any product transfer is initiated. Restarts compound line.
8. Maintains accurate records of all down time (cause, result, total time).
9. Assists in color changes on other lines other than the lines he/she is operating.
10. Performs pellet count test as required.
11. Maintains pellet size within process specification by means of SPC pre-control pellet
charting.
12. Troubleshoots processing problem as required.
13. Performs minor mechanical repair work as needed: clears stopped water pipes, removes
wraps from cutter hubs, and replaces worn blades as needed.
14. Verify equipment settings are correct per posted process specification sheet.
15. Changes out quench bath water on strand lines.
16. Adds 3 droppers of de-foamer to quench water as needed.
17. Notifies management immediately of any mistakes, unexpected occurrences, equipment
malfunctions, and the creation of or discovery of nonconforming material. Follow the
Control of Nonconforming Product Handling for disposition of nonconforming product.
18. Maintains all equipment in a safe, operable condition.
19. Operates lift truck as required.
20. Performs lift truck checklist as required.
21. Changes lift truck battery as required.
22. Adheres to all lock out/tag out procedures.
23. Performs housekeeping in the production area and the concentrate warehouse and rail
siding, as required.

24. Complies with procedures found in Shaw Management System (SMS).
25. Actively participates in the Quality P.R.I.D.E. Process.
26. Performs all job duties using safe work methods.
27. Complies with Corporate Absenteeism and Tardiness Policy.
28. Complies with S.A.F.E. System procedures.
29. Works normally scheduled days adhering to starting and stopping times. Works overtime
as required.

1. Assists Color Plant associates, as needed.
Physical Requirements:
1. Must be able to sit, walk, stand, bend, stoop, squat, lift, carry, climb, and reach, as
required.
2. Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds, as required.
3. Must be able to ascend and descend stairs/ladders, as required.
4. Must be able to operate a hoist, as required.
5. Must be able to push pallet jacks loaded weighing up to 1800 pounds, as required.
6. Must be able to work with hands over head, as required.
Other Requirements:
1. Must successfully complete Lift Truck Operator certification.
2. Must possess good interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
3. Must be able to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as required.
4. Must perform any other job duties as assigned by supervision.
Training Requirements:

1. Must attend a one (1) day orientation training session familiarizing new associate with
the Plant and basic procedures.
2. Must attend Quality/Safety training as required.
3. Must participate in an on the job training session familiarizing the new associate with
their job duties.
Tool, Equipment, & Material Requirements:
1. Responsible for safety equipment issued including safety glasses, earplugs, and safety
vest.
2. Responsible for equipment, materials, and supplies necessary to perform assigned tasks.
Safety & Security Requirements:
1. Must maintain a safe and clean work area at all times.
2. Must report any unsafe conditions to supervision.
3. Must report all accidents no matter how slight to supervision immediately.
4. Must wear personal protective equipment as required while on the job.
5. Must comply with all plant and department safety rules and regulations.
6. Must wear safety required shoes.
