Job description

We are Techmer PM — the world’s foremost materials design firm, creating custom polymers that make up essential products. Through our long-standing partnerships with processors, original equipment manufacturers, and product designers, we’ve worked for decades to tackle manufacturing and business challenges through sustainable, future-minded solutions.

We are currently seeking a Color Matcher for our Dalton, GA location. Pay is $27/hour and up depending on experience. This will be a first shift position, (Monday - Friday 7 a.m. -4:30 p.m.).

Department:      Color Lab

Reports To:         Color Lab Supervisor or Lab Manager

Job Purpose:

To quickly and efficiently match and formulate new colors consistent with work order requirements and lowest possible cost with the objective of satisfying all requirements of both internal and external customers.  To support manufacturing with color testing and formulation for pre-QC and manufacturing color corrections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and complete work orders to meet lab on-time delivery objectives and conformance to work order requirements.
  • Develop and review formulations to be entered into formulation databases.
  • Create exhibits, displays, and paperwork as needed.
  • Assist QC and/or MFG with off-colors in production.
  • Learn and is familiar with MCL, formulation guidelines, color matching software, color theory, color curves.

Core Competencies:

  • Knowledge of colorants and their use in formulations.
  • Expertise in designing new products according to specifications.
  • Expertise in problem solving issues with color in manufacturing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have above average or better color perception based on Munsell Color Vision test.
  • Must be able to calculate fractions and percentages and other mathematical operations.
  • Must be able to operate lab scales, compounding lines, and specimen equipment.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Graduate or GED Equivalency preferred.
  • Six months of experience working with colorants in plastic or fiber and / or processing experience preferred.

Level 1 Expectations:

  • Little to no experience (less than 6 months) and needs supervision.
  • Be able to perform basic color matching functions.

Safety and Housekeeping

  • Maintains a safe work environment at all times. Always wears required PPE.
  • Attends safety communication meetings as required.
  • Reports all near misses and incidents in a timely manner.
