Job description

Overview
The Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life is a national leader in civic education, whose teaching, research, and community partnerships are setting the standard for higher education's role in civic engagement. As the only university-wide college of its kind, Tisch engages Tufts students in transformational learning opportunities via hands-on field-based experiences, community building, and public service. These engagements prepare them to become active citizens and community leaders. Tisch research centers conduct groundbreaking research on young people's civic and political participation and forge innovative participatory action research partnerships with communities.
Tisch College's North Star-building robust, inclusive democracy for an increasingly multiracial society-seeks to cultivate knowledge, leaders and living experiments that expand possibilities for democratic development in the context of increasing risks to democracy worldwide. Our work supports the University's efforts to become an anti-racist institution. Our programs and research centers focus on strengthening the political participation and voices of historically marginalized people, especially youth, and on addressing the challenges of building and reviving democratic institutions needed for multiracial/ethnic societies.
What You'll Do
The Program Administrator, Community Partnerships will help to develop and execute goals and a strategic plan to enhance and deepen multi-disciplinary community partnerships for education, research, and practice. The Program Administrator will lead community outreach and manage partnerships and collaborations with key community partners and stakeholders. These partnerships are the basis for unique and transformative learning experiences as well as opportunities for students, student groups, faculty, and staff to support local communities and the work of community organizations.
The Program Administrator will regularly meet in person and virtually with partners at community organizations and government agencies while also coordinating with teams across Tisch College in support of student internships, research projects, curriculum and course designs, convenings, and more. This role will manage timelines and expenditures and participate in evaluating and learning from collaborations to improve future work. The Program Administrator will also manage public communications with community partners and represent Tisch College at events.
A successful candidate will have strong ties to at least one of Tufts' host and surrounding communities and knowledge of the assets, cultural life and traditions, histories, and challenges these communities face. They must have deep knowledge of and experience with Boston's nonprofit and public sectors, with a focus on underserved communities. They must have knowledge of and/or experience with community organizing, civic engagement, community development, or advocacy as tools for addressing and creating social change. They must be able to take initiative and be creative and innovative with engagement strategies and partnership models, and be present at community events, convenings, conferences, and meetings, occasionally during evenings and weekends.
This position reports to the Director, Community Partnerships.
  • In collaboration with Director, Community partnerships and teams across Tisch College and in alignment with the Tisch College North Star - building robust, inclusive democracy for an increasingly multiracial society - support development of strategy, goals, and content for how Tisch College partners with community organizations, manage the development of new and existing partnerships in line with the college's mission and vision, the learning needs of students, and the priorities of community organizations and government agencies
  • Manage a portfolio of emerging and existing projects with community organizations and government agencies, including student internships and student group engagements at partnership organizations, work-study placements, volunteer opportunities and events, courses that involve community partnerships, research collaborations, and other models that create opportunities for student learning and community impact
  • Provide specific support to key Tisch College programs in maintaining and strengthening key and emerging partnerships, including the Tisch Scholars program, Tisch Summer Fellows, FOCUS, and TCRC Seed Grants
  • Document processes, outcomes, and best practices of projects for record-keeping, reflection, and evaluation
  • Manage Community Partners Newsletter and other communications with partners
  • Advertise relevant opportunities to students through various channels, including Tisch communications to students
  • Contribute updates to internal Tisch communications to keep colleagues informed of the work of the Community Partnerships office
  • Attend community events, including fundraisers for community partners, forums and other public events held by community organizations or government agencies, conferences and convenings regarding community engagement in higher education to learn about community needs, priorities, and emerging issues, as well as explore possible partnerships
  • Attend team meetings, all-Tisch staff meetings, meetings with units across Tufts, and other regular programming including events sponsored by Tisch College
  • Participate in relevant committees, workshops, and trainings at Tisch and across Tufts to develop professional competencies and explore content of interest
  • Occasional evening and weekend work might be required during peak program times.
  • Must be able to travel between campuses.
